Funny u brought up us trading for Carrasco, this is the 3rd article in as many days that i have seen that has mentioned him as a possibility. I think giving up all those young cheap yrs of Frazier for a 33 yr old MORP would be a massive over pay IMO. Frazier with his resurgence is the type of player that u use to headline a package for a TORP. An MLB ready middle of the order bat that hasn't even gone to arbitration yet has a ton of value. Its not like he's a spec that could be hit or miss, he's a young proven MLB ready asset thats more than ready to heavily contribute from day 1. I would want something very special back to give up the kind of cheap production Frazier should provide for the next 4yrs?
Cleveland is looking to save money and would likely pay down some of Carrascos remaining 3yr30m or close to that thats left on his deal. IMO he's still a very solid starter but i feel he's more of the answer for the MORP we need not the TORP that needs to be our top priority.
I really don't think he would be very expensive asset wise to acquire and if we was our 4th/5th starter by the time the playoffs came around i'd be very much on board with that.
Glad to see u are posting more 808, your just the kind of poster we need around here, hope u stick around.
Like i said above i'm not a fan of the idea of getting Carrasco to be our #2 behind Cole but i think he'd be a solid MORP for us. Depending on what Cleveland would pay left on his deal and what they would want in return i think we could do much worse than Carrasco as a middle/ backend veteran starter. I thought he pitched really well last yr considering that he was recovering from that illness. He'll never be the ace he was a couple yrs ago but i definitely see him being that crafty veteran that is always important to have in a rotation.
I absolutely agree with u that if they are going to fix the TOR on the FA market its Bauer or bust. I would love to have that kind of fiery, emontions on his sleeve, ultra competative mentality in our rotation. We need a high intensity, high energy type pitcher in our rotation. When was the last time we had a guy like that in the rotation? I also love the idea of a 1yr deal so there is no big, long term commitment. I'm just not sure Hal is going to be willing to spend another 35m on the rotation 1 yr after giving Cole that huge deal.
I will guarantee u this though, they will not come close to exceeding the 3rd luxury tax tier again. They have a deal in place with next yrs top IFA player, SS Rodrick Arias. He's on same level talent wise as Wander Franco and Dominguez, zero chance they over spend and be forced to miss out on Arias like what happened with 2 of their IFA signings this yr
There is also a rumor going around that Washington is likely going to be looking to dump payroll and with only 1yr left on his deal, Max's name has come up as a trade possibility. I think the biggest obstacle of a Scherzer trade is trying to figure out what 1yr of him should cost asset wise and how much of his salary they would have to take on.
Interesting article about what the Yanks need to fix this winter
