Couldn’t agree more with you . People here are putting way too much faith in German for this up coming season . I can understand the faith in sevy though , he has pitched like a solid #2 when healthy over multiple seasons so it is possible he could greatly help the yanks in the second half . Bauer will get 25 to 30 mill tops , and if dj gets close to what he is asking then lindor will get close to 30 mill . And right now if I was gonna choose who to pay 25 to 30 mill for it would be Bauer . They need a number 2 starter A Lot more than they need another high priced position player . And they could afford Bauer if they went on a low risk high reward option at ss .

Are you certain with any degree of confidence Sevy (by mid season) and German won't be contributors? There combined ability could far out weigh Bauers....with less baggage, and a drastically lower cost.

Hopefully Germans issues are behind him and he has sought professional help to deal with the anger. They effect him and his relationship more than the team directly. It does bring the type of attention the Yankee front office loathes.

Bauer is a constant, non stop self promo. He is on twitter at this very moment donning different BB caps and pandering for votes! I posted the video in the Bauer thread. He can be a very loose cannon and often doesn't think before he engages his mouth. The tension with Cole is well documented, no need to rehash. That is the type of distraction Yankees don't need in the clubhouse.

1 is already on the team and has proven, at least over 1 full season, he can be a solid pitcher(3-4 type) in the AL east, and costs peanuts. It is concerning that he may have hit his wife(I have yet to see evidence with my own eyes that he did, he also appeared to have mental breakdown during the suspension, which I'm sure could take its toll on anyone in the situation)(he very well may have, but the situation was just weird from the start)

The other 1 is a head case, with limited success in the central division(AL and NL) has had beef with our current ace staff whom just happens to be one of the top pitchers in the game and is commanding large sum of money.

Seems like a no brain-er.

If the Yanks signed Bauer, I would root for him. But, I would prefer if they didn't.

Still doesn’t answer my question . All I am seeing here is you willing to give a free pass to a wife beater and potential quitter and at the same time wanting to roast a guy over the coals for words he has said about himself over social media . And I am not saying German doesn’t deserve another chance I do believe in second chances what I am saying is that if a wife beater deserves a pass like you say German does then Bauer sure has hell deserves to be given a chance period .

And if Bauer will sign for the same $ amount that German is being paid this year, I say "yes, sign him up!" , but I'm guessing Bauer won't do that. Do you?

What does that have to do with their salaries ? The conversation was about emotional baggage . But if you want to talk salaries , I much rather give 25 to 30 mill to Bauer than to dj or lindor

Apples and oranges Jorge. German paid the price for his transgression. He served the suspension and didn't appeal. He accepted responsibility for his action. He went thru counseling and forfeited a years salary. I can not predict or suggest he has tamed the demons.

My concern with Bauer is the impact he could have on the team, particularly the clubhouse and team chemistry. His talk on twitter and elsewhere is not harmless banter. He blasts teammates and the opposition. He is an instigator and overall loud mouth. He is the consummate self promoter. He is the epitome of a self centered, me first knucklehead.

Should the Yankees do anything that may get under Cole's skin?

there you go making up stuff again. I have only said German would be an upgrade to what they currently have behind Cole and i don't think its a stretch to think he is going to be better than King, Schmidt, Nelson and likely Garcia. No one has said anything about him being our #2 next yr. None of them have even pitched a full season in the MLB and Garcia is the only one that had any kind of moderate success last yr.

While there aren't any other better FA options, i certainly think there are other options on the trade market that would be a much better fit that Bauer in the short and long term. Castillio is one of the better young pitchers in baseball and that is the exact kind of pitcher the Yanks should be targeting, even if they have to over pay a bit. I'd take Castillio and take a flier on Paxton on a 1yr prove it kind of deal. If Sevy, Paxton and German return to form that would give us a hell of a rotation and not eat up the Yanks entire budget like Bauer would.

Roger Clemens was a me first instigator and loud mouth on the mound and it didn’t keep the Yankees from trading for him . Then there was David wells who was a drunk and a loud mouth too and the yanks had him too . Big money sure had a way to tame big mouths and instigators . And did you make a big deal when CC intentionally hit a rays hitter 2 years ago and got suspended for it? That is as an example of a yankees player instigating . Then there was cc trash talking cashman and Boone to the media for the game 2 debacle , and he still works for the yanks as an advisor too , I sure as hell am willing to give Bauer a chance if it means getting to and winning a ws .

The Yankees are not getting Castillo without a package that starts with Torres. Even then we would need to add significant additional pieces.
