you all forgetting something if their is no vaccine before the season starts how are teams going to pay full salaries for players if their are no fans. or not many fans in seats that will cost teams a lot of money...
Whay would you say if we could get Morton as s #3 for $10-12 mil/yr for 2 yrs?
Morton won a ring in 2017, and followed it up by going 15-3 with a 3.13 ERA in 2018. After signing a two-year, $30 million deal with Tampa Bay prior to the 2019 season, Morton had the best year of his career, finishing third in the AL Cy Young voting after going 16-6 with a 3.05 ERA.
In the postseason, Morton is 7-3 with a 3.38 ERA.
He'll be 37 in Nov., he can still pitch. His age is a concern. Bauer, Stroman, Tanaka, Minor, Ray, Odorizzi, Quintana and Paxton also need to considered. Morton may provide the most bang for the buck, but age is a concern imo.
DJ will make more money, even at a discount, in his next contract than morton will have made his entire career. Surprised if he's retiring.
No way the Yankees do that deal!
You also know the moment Lindor had a rough spot, you'd hear that they were stupid to make that trade.
I fully agree about the finances. If they hope to keep Judge, Torres, Frazier and Urshela they are going way past the luxury so why not just go big, no, go yuge. Break the bank and and live with it.
Cubs cut Lester and it sounds like it's no guarantee they pick up Rizzos big option. If they do pick up Rizzos option they are expected to shop him
Let's hope that Hal has someone around him to make sure he realizes what he is passing up if they choose not to shop in this market.
We've only seen options not be picked up so far, I guarantee the list of non tendered players is going to surprise people
Obviously not everyone is going to be cheap but its going to be in those 2nd and 3rd tier players that are going to be looking for very short term deals, that a team could really get some deals on. I think some des are going to be just to good to pass on, especially with BP arms.
If no team was interested in a top 3-5 AL reliever for a lottery pick and 10m. If this were a normal yr literally every team but the Rays would have tried to get him. So what do guys like Hand, Yates, Hendricks, Rosenthal and other guys of that tier will get this yr, 1yr 4-7 m max. For a team like us who desperately needs to add quality arms to the pen, adding a couple of those guys might be to difficult to pass on IMO.
If the rest of the market follows the reliever it could be very interesting to see who ends up where
They should spend to whatever tax threshold that starts costing them draft picks and IFA .money.
Day, at bargain prices the Yanks should take a VERY serious look at Hand and Lindor. At the right price he is no longer a luxury, but an affordable "makes sense" option.
It is time the Yankees start focusing on defense too . Last 4 years they have focused more on offense than on defense and it hasn’t really worked . Besides I see nothing wrong with having This guy as the 4th outfielder until injuries or struggled make him needed . There is no valid reason to take the starting job away from Frazier especially to a 34 year old player who is likely past his prime .

The best upside signings on the free agent market this year?
1. Chris Archer
2. Cole Hamels
3. Andrelton Simmons
4. James Paxton

On this day in 2001, Derek Jeter became "Mr. November" with a 10th-inning walk-off HR in Game 4 of the World Series.
My whole point is that Brantley WILL NOT sign here as the 4th OFer. That is why you give him the starting job. If you want to focus on defense then Brantley is an upgrade over Frazier in LF. If you want to focus on defense then I guess you are on board with Gardner coming back?
I don’t want Gardner back either and if Brantley doesn’t want to be the 4th outfielder then pass on him . I just don’t see the reason to take the starting job away from a kid that has worked so hard for it . I am sure there are cheaper options out there for A 4th outfielder spot . And at 34 years old unless he is looking for a one year deal , there won’t be a lot if teams willing to sign a 34 year old player as a everyday outfielder

Im on the fire Cashman train with you. After I saw his end of season presser and heard him say something to the effect of " we will get together with everyone and work our process that we;ve had in place for the past ten year yadda yadda " I thought, the process that has netted you a WS 11 years ago, that process? Come on, its time to go Cash. Yeah, he puts together a competitive team year in a year out but he never makes that one trade or two that puts the team over the top cuz the deal might favor the other team. The idea of losing the battle but winning the war must be a foreign concept.
I'd rather have a team that wins 2 or 3 times in ten year with a couple of bad seasons than being almost good enough every year. So yeah man, im with you, time to bring someone in that has a grasp on todays game. Its no longer put the most talent on the field, its a game of making the parts fit well, which, hes done a very poor job of.
how many of those guys would you want to sign? Yates at the right price and maybe Paxton on the right kinda deal but the other 3 i'm not sure i'd touch. Archer has been a complete disaster since he left the Rays. I'd take a chance on him as a reliever or sign him to an MILB deal but i'd never want to count on him to be a part of the rotation
Yates but i doubt he can be had a decent price. Rather try and sign Hand
The rest no thanks. Paxton has been underwhelming and the team has plenty of 3,4,5 starter options, they need a legit 2. If Sevy can come back and be even close to what he was then they have a real 1 - 2 - 3 that will have a real chance.
Cleveland didn't pick up Carlos Santana's option either, so they now have a big opening at 1st base
Sounds like the Mets are going to offer Stroman the QO, so we can scratch him off the possible's list. No way are we going to pay more than 18m and give the Mets a draft pick

You really think he was an option? They could've traded for him and didn't. He's more of a borderline 2, or 3 even, on a contender which is fine but not at the 15+ he will get.
Again, they need a Bauer type at 2 and not a good but not great pitcher. Would be great if Sevy can come back, even at 75%, and give the team a 1 2 3 that actually gives them a real chance.
I want nothing to do with him but others had been talking about him as an option.
I completely agree that they need a legit number 2 very badly. I do have serious concerns about Sevy when he comes back after missing almost 3yrs. I just don't think the Yanks can count on him being the same guy he was before, especially right away
