I absolutely agree with you, the direction is completely unclear right now. I also agree with you where this core is, age and money wise, you either need to go all in or start rebuilding for the next group. I really wonder also if Castillio is truly available, SD was pretty motivated and they have all the right kind of specs you could want in return. If SD couldn't swing a deal they must be asking for the moon and stars

If my choices were DJ for 4plus yrs and Castillio for 3, he's going to get expensive quick, or Lindor and Carrasco i would have rather have made the Cleveland trade. Not making that move for Lindor and Carrasco is so bafflingly stupid because it takes care of our 2 biggest needs for about 33-35m. He and Carrassco put us right back into contention AND puts them in a much better position going forward, with or without DJ. You add a couple BP arms and we would have been in great shape. Worst case after next yr you resign Lindor and start moving everything you can except Cole, Torres, I don't think Stanton is tradeable and whatever talent comes up this yr that could have a real impact. We'd start a rebuild with 1 of the better starters, the best middle infield in baseball and 50hr, when healthy, DH and alot of high ceiling pitching thats pretty close to being MLB ready.

I just have this feeling that if they get DJ they likely will go with what they have pitching wise betting huge on Sevy, German and hope like hell 2 of the kids can contribute huge. With the way they aren't addressing the rotation it jst doesn't feel like they're that concerned about it. Maybe they think a couple of the kids we haven't really seen in a yr that they have had at the alt site last yr are alot closer than the fans know. I'm just trying to find so hope and understanding in their direction because what they haven't done so far makes zero sense

At this point i really feel, especially since the season is likely to start late, they are probably going to count on Sevy to be there number 2 and live with what they have until he gets back. He's already throwing breaking balls from a mound and its been close to 11 months since he had the surgery. He could be back by June.

Maybe they bring Paxton back or Kluber on an heavily incentivized deal. The only thing that is Crystal clear is that they have zero intention on capitalizing on this market and they aren't going to go over the luxury tax.

Here's a scary thought if Hal decides he doesn't want to spend a dime. Gio was a SS all the way through the minors, he only switched to 3rd just before coming to the Yanks. He was originally signed to be a utility guy. Watch them move Gio to either 2nd or SS and go with Andujar at 3rd.

Cheap and if they can stay mostly healthy, they probably still make the playoffs. If Sevy and German return to form and a couple of the kids can contribute big maybe they win the division. With as weak as the AL appears right now its not going to take much more than what we have to make the playoffs and right now i think its pretty clear that Hals goal

Yankees were below .500 last season when dj went on the dL . And just making the playoffs has been Hal’s goal for the last 10 years , after 09 he stopped caring about winning a ws . This off season just proved it

Holy hell. Didnt think relievers would get that kinda money this off season.

The details on Liam Hendriks' fascinating deal with the Chicago White Sox:

It is a three-year deal that will pay Hendriks $39M in those first three years. But both the buyout and fourth-year option salary are $15M, so Hendriks will receive $54M regardless of what White Sox do.

I'm extremely frustrated after watching a perfect fix to our biggest problems go cross town for peanuts. It sucks to watch pitching we need go else where and i hav zero understanding of the direction they are going. With this kind of market and the ability to acquire elite talent for pennies on the dollar you would think Hal would suck it up for i yr and go all in or atleast enough to give us a legit chance

If they aren't all in then you have to think about a retool/ rebuild. Viot and Gio, not that i would want them to trade Gio unless it was for a haul, are never going to be more valuable then they are now. They have to decide if Judge is a long term piece or not. I'd rather that they would explore what kind of trade value they could get for some of these guys rather than making lateral moves.

I don't get the picture of what they are trying to do but one thing i know is i don't have all the facts and info.

Another aspect that makes planning for next season harder, especially for fans that don't have all the info, was their was no MILB season last yr. Usually we would have a handful of guys that had big yrs and are on the doorstep of contributing to the MLB team. Other than a few small reports we don't have a clue how much these guys developed in 14months. Maybe some guys took huge leaps and are far more ready to contribute than we expect. With the talent we have, especially pitching, its not a huge leap to think that anyone who was in high A or above in 19 could be ready at some point this yr

I said something like this before but we can't keep desperately searching for TORP every winter, we have to start developing our own. If we could develop 2 starter that were capable of being our # 2 and #3 that would be absolutely huge going forward. If we could develop a few top BP arms we'd really be in a good place pitching wise. The biggest issue that most Yanks fans have with that is we hate watching the young kids struggle when we could conceivably have a stud veteran pitching in that spot instead. Other than Tanaka and Cole we haven't done well at all trying to trade/sign pitching, maybe its time to give the kids a chance to develop so we can hopefully stop our annual crap shoot. They brought in Briend and Blake because of there proven ability to develop young pitching, hopefully we start to see those results this yr

I don't get the direction they seem to be taking but i know i don't have all the info and we've put a winner on the field for 27 straight yrs, i'm sure that they atleast put another winner on the field which shouldn't be that hard in the AL.

I'm pretty sure i mentioned them staying healthy would be a big part of it. They never were at full strength from day 1 last yr

And they won’t be at full strength on day 1 this season either .

wow they are really, really going for it... Good for them but that a ton of money for a reliever this yr, especially when they could have had Hand for 10m

I thought that this was gonna be a terrible market this off season . So much for that . If a closer is getting close to 14 mill a year , and everyday player like dj will get atleast 20 mill per year

Sadly I think you are answering our questions and your own.
They aren't paying for pitching until they see if they need to par for it. They are waiting to see if Sevy and German return to form. If they do, they have their 2 and 3. Then Monty and Dvi/Schmidt/King are your 4 and 5.
As far as portion players, I think they will wait for DJ to get an offer before jumping. The problem is, I can see DJ being irritated enough to take an offer from another team that is close to what he wants.
If I'm an interested team, I throw a 4 year, 85 mil deal at him.

This team will be the same team as last year, minus Paxton and likely minus Tank and DJ.

I think the Yankees are using this year to say **** the fans, they aren't there and to cut their payroll.
It's a smart move in a business sense but a ****** thing to do to fans.

Can NOT underestimate the impact of losing Sevy and German. I now sound like a broken record. (or CD for those that aren't familiar with those 12", round black things that play music.) Paxton loss just amplified the mess.

Conversely I don't think we should underestimate the addition of those two in 2021. It's akin to grabbing a top shelf FA imo.

ps. That is not in anyway intended to suggest they DON'T need additional help in the rotation. Just means the situ isn't as grave as being suggested by certain donkey's.
