Fowler, Mateo and Kap were all top 100 in baseball[/QUOTE
Ok you were right they were top 100 . In that case that was a serious overpay for a middle of the rotation pitcher. Just proves my earlier point valid .
Gray had shown to be a pretty solid TORP before we got him. He had already proved himself in the playoffs, was an AS and had a top 5 cy young season. How or why he couldn't pitch here or why we didn't atleast give him one more season to see if he could turn it around, i'll never understand. He was the right guy to acquire, he was pretty much everything you could want in a pitcher, young, cheap, multiple yrs of control, playoff proven, excellent stuff, ect
Trying to make him change the way he had been extremely successful with his entire career was a huge mistake and they just made it worse by absolutely giving him away. I certainly think that at the time we acquired Gray he was absolutely in the same league as Castillio is now. He certainly wasn't a 3rd tier pitcher before we got him
Day, what i can say, he was a better pitcher out west in Oakland. He was a torp for them. He's been a better pitcher since leaving NY. I think Gray is much better than he showed in NY. Castillo is a very good young arm. Bring him to NY and let's see how he does. ;)
Imo regarding Gray, too many cooks in the kitchen.
I'd say Sheffield's value at the time matched Paxton's perfectly. Paxton was excellent when healthy but was hurt a lot and ultimately lost velocity. To get a pitcher of Paxton's caliber without the injury concerns you are looking at a Chris Sale type package. Therefore, they weren't getting much more for Sheffield. I also agree with Dayners, the Gray trade looked great. He was proven in just about every facet before he came to the Yanks. There was no way to predict that guy crumbling in NY.
Your not trying to compare Sheffields value being remotely close to what Dominguez is, are u?
I am not really comparing sheffield and Dominguez talent wise . I am just using them in this argument because 3 years ago , sheff was their best pitching prospect , now Dominguez is the yanks top positional prospect . So trading Sheffield back then is like the Yankees trading Dominguez now .
Can't fix stupid.
Like literally so easy to do.
