Rizzo is the face of the franchise, the heart and soul. He will not be a "throw in" to any Darvish trade. Rizzo will remain a Cub until he asks out. Simple as that. Giving that over 30 1B only players don't tend to hold much trade value, I suspect Rizzo is more likely to get an extension to make him a Cub lifer than to be traded. He is to the Cubs, what Jeter was to the Yankees. Would you trade Jeter as a "throw in"?
As for Darvish, I am ok with moving Darvish but the price might not be worth it for the Yankees, to be honest. For me a Yankees offer for Darvish would begin with Dominguez and Garcia. From a Yankees POV, for a 34 yr old RHP with 3 yrs remaining on the deal, is it worth it? Probably not.
I'm cool with moving Darvish to the Yankees but think prospects not Luke Voit. With that said, there is still talk that the Cubs plan to make one more run with this group, so moving Darvish is probably not in the cards.
As good As Dominguez is , is he a starting pitcher? No he isn’t . And for years now the yanks have come up short because of lack of starting pitching , especially this season . Now I am not saying I would trade him for darvish but at the same time if winning a ws now is the objective , I would consider it
There’s just no way Yu is close to that asking. Hell, that would be more than the dodgers gave up to get Betts. Clevinger, a 29 year old with 2 years of arb left got traded for a less talented Clint Frazier, a backup catcher, a decent relief pitcher, and three prospects with the highest being ranked 94 on the top 100.
Yes, and no. While I agree we need more starting pitching, and another pen arm, you can make an argument that we got sent home from lack of hitting and not pitching. In that game 5, we managed just 3 hits. In our 7 playoff games Judge hit .143, Voit .111, Urshella .105 and Sanchez .000 lol. Not saying I don’t want to improve the pitching but our bats are just as much to blame, if not more
You forget that if the yanks starting pitching didn’t get hit so badly in games 2 and 3, there would not have been a game 5 . Heck the lack of starting pitching behind cole is why they pulled that debacle in game 2. the Yankees scored 9 runs combined in games 2 and 3 and still lost because their pitching gave up 15 runs in those two games combined .
I guess I have a different take. I see him as being honest and unforgiving but at the same time, enjoying how nuts it makes the media.
Doc, Jeter did the exact same thing regarding women. Exactly the same but he added a gift basket.
I have zero problem with Bauer's dating comments. I find absolutely zero misogyny in his comments or behavior. It's a clear cut definition of what he wants. He does not want any emotional investment or to have any element of commitment.
If you and I were discussing this topic and If I said to you, my 3 rules about dating are that, I want no attachments and will not deal with any emotional aspects of a relationship. Also, any social media commentary on anything we do privately, ends it and lastly, I will not commit to monogamy. So if you are ok keeping it, quiet, casual and open, we can have fun.
Because at his age, I can assure you, I did just that. I did that from the age of 19 till 40. Aside from a couple year or two relationships one of which was open, I did exactly that. I didn't hate women, I just wanted to have sex with as many as I could. :D
Was I being misogynist? There's no hate. No, I only cared about the physical and there are plenty of women who are the same. I think calling it misogyny is a moral condemnation.
Is it showmanship? For sure, but I have to believe he loves BB. You don't work that hard and get those results if you don't care
I also think a guy like him would push Cole to be even better because he would never want to lose his spot as the Ace to Bauer.
Rizzo is a fantastic player. I have wanted him on the Yankees for a few years. He is a GG first baseman and a great Lefty, hitter. I think he's an easy 35 hr guy at YS without trying to change his style, so he'd still be a low K guy who can't hit the ball all over the field.
If the Yankees wanted him, I start the bidding with 3 of Voit, Andujar, Schmidt, Gil, Sanchez, Florial and add whatever mid level guys needed. Dominguez, Garcia and Frazier are my untouchables
As you said, Cubs are likely to take another run with Rizzo having one more year on his contract, which is a ridiculously low cost contract for a guy of his caliber.
No clown Jeter did not do the exact same thing! Jeter didn't detail he's sex life on social media! In fact he went to great lengths to keep it private. Imo that is the difference. Bauer seems to take pleasure in publicizing his exploits. Imo egotistical and arrogant.
Misogyny doesn't always equate to hate, just disrespect. Using women as mere checks on a score card. To each his own, my point keep it to yourself. I was a straight male in NYC in the 70 - 80's I get it.
Klown i kinda see it differently, I don't remember Jeter going out and giving interviews about his sex life like that. The press, because of the high profile of the women that he primarily dated and his own high profile, talked about his private life on their own. The stalked Jeter trying to get pics of him with the next Diva/model/actress, he wasn't doing it to create a fan base or Brand. 1 other thing about Jeter, he was a home grown, face of the franchise that literally could do no wrong in the fans eyes, Bauer would be a hired gun that the fan base has no deep connection to
If Bauer or anybody else wants to go out and have the kind of sex life that he described , the women know that up front and its among consenting adults its really not anyone but their business. I know quite a few pro athletes and the majority of them are all very, very similar to what Bauer is describing, so his actions aren't a shock, its that he's putting it out there publicly.
My original point is that there is a " Yankee Way" and a definite type of player that the Yanks target and players that give those types of interviews aren't the type of player the Yanks bring in through FA. They look for the professional type of player like Cole, Bauer is very different than that mold. If Hal is going to add another 30m plus pitcher 1 yr after giving the biggest pitching contract in baseball , iI think they would like to sign someone that fights their mold.
Bauer is a great pitcher, he also is extremely outspoken on controversial issues, openly trolls other players, teams or anything he sees is open season. He goes right back at the media when he wants to and that really might not play well as a Yankee in NY. Completely just my opinion but i would be very surprised if the Yanks seriously considered signing him to a long term deal.
No one could forget that. There’s no arguing that game two was a debacle, and in no way shape or form am I arguing that we don’t need another starter or two. I have less of an issue with game 3. Tanks got hit hard, it happens. My only point was that we shouldn’t forget to look at changing the lineup. It’s been largely the same since 17 with nothing to show for it
