If they sign that guy then just trade Clint Frazier. That would tell us that Cash doesn’t trust Frazier and will never so just move him Brian!

I agree with you about Sevy and German. My only concern is we may not see them at their best till 22. I do think they will have a big impact on the rotation in 21 though
It's really not a stretch to think with guys like Garcia (if his body can handle a starter workload) Schmidt, Medina, Gil, Vizcaino, Contreras and others that are coming quickly that German and Monty will probably have to pitch pretty well in 21 to guarantee a spot in 22
I talked to my scout buddy and he said that everyone is on fire about Gil, Medina and Contreras right now. They all apparently took huge steps forward last yr. Medina upped his spin rates across the board, grew 2 inches and put on about 20lbs. He said that Medina was regularly sitting 99+ touching 103 in the mid innings, he also ditched his circle change in favor of a straight change with a strong splitting action that he throws 90-92, the CB is the same plus-plus hammer its been since he was 16. He also said all the info he's seen and heard is that the release point/ control was very consistent all last yr at the ALT site. He said the feeling with the scouts he's talked to, they believe if Medina reaches his ceiling he could be one of the better pitchers in baseball. Scouts absolutely, love his athleticism, work ethic and his mound presence. He said the only thing that he's missing is getting live reps and he could easily be ready at some point in 21
He said the only reason that we aren't hearing as much about Gil is because Medina has been that impressive. Even though Gil doesn't have quite the velo Medina does, he still sits 97-99 and has touched 101, scouts like his FB about a half grade above Medina because of the great riding action he gets on his 4 seam and he throws the heaviest 2 seam in the system. The CU is a plus Circle change that he gets really good depth and fade with. He said the SL has huge potential in the high 80's , low 90's, while he's controlling it well he's still trying to improve the shape. He is another one that he described as a baseball rat, first one at the gym in the morning, always trying to do and learn anything to get better, incredibly coachable. Apparently he has a chip on his shoulder because he was a pretty low dollar IFA signee and he's out to prove everyone wrong. He's another one that needs some more live reps but could impact the team in 21
the one the he really was excited about was Contreras. He feel Contreras is one of the better kept secrets around . He doesn't have close to the power stuff that Medina and Gil do but he has remarkable command/control and a great feel for pitching at a pretty young age. He gave a Carrasco type pitcher as a comp and he said most scouts/evaluators feel he's one of the safer bets to reach his ceiling. He throws his FB's in the 92-95 range touching 98 with his 4 seam, with great life and excellent command. He has one of the better CB in the system, just behind Schmidt and a Circle CU that is consistently plus or better.
He said in his opinion, especially ceiling wise he feels that those are our top 3 pitching specs. He said that Garcia and Schmidt are excellent pitching specs but they just don't have the ceiling ot the top 3
I asked him if these were just going to be another group of really talented pitching specs that we weren't going to be able to develop like so many others. He said he believes the development culture around our pitching has changed a great deal and he feels that were going to see that reflected in this group of specs. With as excited as my buddy is about these guys am going to be extremely hopeful that some special arms are coming
I'm not in anyway trying to say these guys will fix our rotation issues right out of the gate but this scout has been doing this for a very long time and is extremely high on these 3 guys and a couple other arms in the system. I would say that while were along way from having a great rotation we have the talent thats not to far away that we could end up with a great rotation and atleast its something to be excited about going forward
:crazy: thats truly a bafflingly statement. He has an incredible amount of value. He's a 26 yr old, GG caliber LFer that has a middle of the lineup bat and still has 4yrs? of control left. Just because a player become ARB eligible hardly means they are worthless when they are young and have shown huge potential. Outside of Torres and Dominguez, Frazier is probably our most valuable trade chip and could easily headline a deal for a marque player
KJ your sources got that one really wrong.... you may need to upgrade from the cleaning lady or was it a waitress ??
Doc and Day, I love you guys but I fully disagree about Puig. I think you guys are totally off base on this one.
He is exactly what this team needs. He's an injury prone, righty power bat with a massive K rate who plays suspect D and has character issues. He's perfect.
This team needs a guy like that. We don't have anyone else who fits that bill
Dayners, thanks for the update from Scout buddy on the pitching. It's encouraging. I'm not as high on Frazier as you are and I have no problem trading him in the right deal for pitching or a Lindor type deal.
I'm a 100% with you i'd gladly include Frazier for Lindor or the right player/pitcher. I would have actually made that offer for Lindor by now as long as Hal would green light re signing him. In this winter's market i don't think it would be that difficult or expensive to find a solid defensive OFer that would put up offensive numbers you could live with. If it meant getting Lindor or a legit TORP by trading Frazier I'd make that deal all day. U could go get a Brock Holt, Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario Or Almora type on a 1yr deal and pair that with Andujar out there a couple times a week. Another thought is if they really wanted to go young and cheap they could go with a Florial/ Andujar platoon. It could be a better team and use of assets but its just a thought
Canaan Smith is an incredibly talented corner OF hitting spec, who could surprise people next yr and the list of tool shed, uber talented OF specs we have in A Ball and lower is 7-10 specs deep. Point being we have some very special OF talent that isn't to far away. IMO, while i certainly wouldn't give Frazier away, if i got the right talent back i would also move him
Agree Day. In the right deal Frazier is expendable. BUT....I don't believe he's worthless and should be traded for the sake of moving him, particularly for specs. As I mentioned previously, imo Frazier could be the headliner in many deals, e.g. Castillo, Lindor ect.
Just one question if you don’t feel German and sevy will be at their best this season then how could they have a big impact on the rotation this season ? Especially with sevy having restrictions on his starts ? Now I can believe they both could have big impacts next season though , especially sevy. I just am not convinced it happens this season. In fact I think there is a better chance of Medina having a big impact on the rotation this season than sevy and German do .
