Sorry. Should have been more thorough.

1. The Yankees really need some guys to eat up quality innings, if a true #2 is not available.

2. Taillon scares the crap out of me because 2 TJs in 5 years screams STAY AWAY. We don't need a high risk, high reward guy. We are at the point of needing a proven commodity.

3. Kluber was once a beast. But, at his age, coming off 2 years of injury. Its a hard pass for me. Older guys coming off of shoulder injuries scream STAY AWAY.

4. If I have to take a risk, my sense is I'd go for Paxton, assuming he's healthy. Not that I love him. But, I'll have the most information about his injury to evaluate its reality. I think he's going to get a cheap one year prove me deal. And, when he's on, he can be electric. Naturally, I won't get many innings, but what are my realistic options at this point. Lester? Tanaka? Think both will be out of our price range.

Can Sevy be that #2? Can German eat innings and give quality to boot?

I think many of us underestimate the loss of those two this past season. Had Yankees had either in post season to send out in game two rather than a green Garcia, season outcome may have been very different. imo.

I think Sevy can be that #2 in the future but I wouldn't count on it this season. He will need time to build his arm back up and shake off the rust.

I think eventually they both could fit those roles that you mentioned. That said I would hate to count on them extensively next yr until we've seen them pitch and know they got their stuff back.

The idea of putting German in the BP when we desperately need starting pitching and he was quite good in 19. He filled in pretty seamlessly for Sevy that yr. Until he proves he is ineffective or can't stay healthy u leave him in the rotation. He's to young and has show to much as a starter to be sent to the BP, especially when there are tons of cheap, effective relievers available

I also agree that we have extremely under estimated the loss last yr of both Sevy and German and Paxton and Kahnle as well. The playoffs would have been way different if we would have had close to the pitching we expected to when the season started

i agree about Sevy but with them delaying his comeback till mid season he should have his arm built up some by then. He's already throwing off a mound and is scheduled to start throwing breaking pitches early next month.

While i do think he will he a solid addition when he comes back, i'm very hesitant to say he's going to step right into that #2 role. Although as of right now he would easily be the 2nd best starter on the roster.

he has no idea, as he has proven many times. He's too scared of being proved wrong to accept Docs bet about which team will have the better record next yr. If he's so positive the Mets are going to be better, why not take the bet?

I said German can be put in the bullpen if they would get Bauer , I mean as of now he is only gonna be a starter for half of next season and we don’t even know what we will get from him . I mean talk about over estimating , some here are ready to pencil him in as the number 2 starter because of one good season but he only pitched 143 innings in that one season , that is hardly an innings eater to me .

there you go again putting your own spin on things. No one has said anything about expecting German to be our #2 next yr, unless you still think behind only means directly behind not the actual meaning.

German was arguably our best pitcher in 19, he stepped in and filled Sevys role very well in his 1st real opportunity to be a full time starter. Yes he missed last yr but there is nothing that would stop him, like recovering from an injury, from him returning to that form

He's a young, cheap, effective starter that should be given every opportunity to stay in the rotation, either to continue to develop him into a long term piece or just to raise his trade value. He has proven far more and has a better chance to contribute right away than Schmidt, King or Nelson and probably Garcia

The Yankees always have a contender on the field, but the Mets could rival them this season. What do oddsmakers think? Well, they are both in the Top 6 of World Series favorites at the moment, though the Yanks have the upper hand.

The Bombers' current odds are at +275, only second behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (+180). The Mets, though, are at +900 and that could change depending on more offseason moves.
