He is basically doing the same thing jeter did during his career , he is just being more open and blunt about it

Bauer's comments are interesting to say the least.
Is it a play to drive up his value as suggested? For sure
Is it disingenuous? Maybe not.
We have all commented on Cole putting on big, boy pants and telling the FO he'd be good with Bauer on the team. Bauer just beat him to it. He has said he'd play for the Yankees.
The Yankees, if they truly want to win, should explore the idea, because it they could get it done?
My lord, what a top two of a rotation. Bring in a solid vet on the cheap for insurance and roll out
Cole
Bauer
then any combo of Sevy, German, Monty, Garcia, Schmidt or that Vet.
I personally have zero issue with Bauer. I think he would have a blast, messing with the media and I think he would be a pleasant change to the typical yankee player. He and Frazier would spice up the team.
I think that's why Alderson made his comments about Bauer and I why I think Coen is going to bring the Mets to serious contention and make them a very fun team to watch. I can see them being the anti-Yankee style team, a non corporate, weird and entertaining team, full of personality and talent.
Imagine an OF with personalities like Manny Ramirez, Dykstra and Swisher?
Imagine that on the Yankees? Nope. But it would be brilliant for the Mets to go that route.
Bauer has every right to create his brand. This is his one big payday. If he really goes that route and conveniently, doesn't find a suitable contract and sign a 1 year deal as a bet on himself to get an even better deal next year.
If it came down to Bauer or Lindor? I take Bauer.
edit- I could totally see Bauer playing the nice guy with every intention of signing with the Mets just to get under Cole's skin
No building a brand ISN'T self centered or childish, Bauer is! There are ways and means to an end. Imo he has no intention of playing in NY, but must keep them in the convo for leverage. His persona is annoying. It strikes me as a ME first mentality. Not conducive to being a team player.
He strikes me as a headcase. Comparisons to Jeter are asinine. Jeter never did anything to embarrass himself or Yankees. He went to great lengths to keep his name OUT of the tabloids! Bauer seems to go out of his way to make the back pages of tabloids. Jete understood and respected Yankee history and tradition. He understood winning, commitment and desire. It wasn't me first, it was NY Yankees.
Bauer is the best arm available, no question. I question the fit. He's the #2 Yankees need.
I don't know that the atmosphere would be toxic Cole's skin. I meant the he may be legit in that aspect.
Where he would get under Cole's skin is if he played for the Mets, because he could be the un-PC, personality in NYC and bring a heated rivalry between the two.
One about which he will talk tons of smack. It could be great for NY baseball either way
I think Bauer would be a guy who would potentially rub straight laced people, the wrong way. Much of the Yankee team is like that. I think guys like Voit, Frazier, Gio, Higgy, Judge and DJ would welcome it or at worst, be immune in not care. There are some guys who's mental makeup may not tolerate his behavior with grace or humor.
Bauer speaks his mind and owns it. Whether or not I agree with what he says is irrelevant. I welcome that type of player. I think he is a guy who can take heat off other guys and I think he knows it and does it intentionally. He also steps in it. But he never backs down and I love that.
I agree, it is a risk. But we have seen teams who were ready to kill one another, succeed because in spite of off the field stuff, they trusted and respected each other on the field 86 mets comes to mind.
I don't think the Yankees take that risk.
I think the Mets do.
As I said, it will be great for NY baseball to have them in "silent competition", top be the best pitcher in NYC.

Future Hall of Famer Yadier Molina has received calls with interest from both the Yankees and Mets plus 3-4 other teams in addition to the #STLCards as I just said on
@MLBNetwork
St. Louis is the likely favorite but in free agency you never know. Seeks a 2-year deal.
Thats a good starting place for many deals. Love him or hate 'em Sanchez has rock solid numbers as a catcher. His numbers have fallen last season or so, but historically he's in top 5 offensively. Voit is no slouch with the bat either, although his glove isn't an asset. Not suggesting these two would get the deal done, just it's a very good start to any deal. Catchers are a rare commodity.
I completely disagree. Labeling him as a headcase because he speaks his mind? That's not right. The guy cares about the game of baseball and cares about building the brand of baseball. He, like everyone else, knows MLB does a bad job at marketing the game. He isn't afraid to call those people out.
