We can hope.
Yankee interest has a tendency to drive prices up. It also scares some teams to run for cover, they know they can't compete or choose not to. I imagine this season a lot of teams are ducking and running.

dj might not be coming back.. but gardner could be back what a off season that would be for the yanks..
DJ showcased his talent in the biggest media market in the MLB. He played extremely well under the bright lights. He wants to get paid. He deserves to get paid. He's an all star caliber player with a couple batting titles and multiple gold gloves. I would love to have him back. Unfortunately he is pricing himself out of the Yankees comfort zone.
The 2008 team had a better rotation than this current team . Musssina , wang and pettitte were better than what they got now after cole . What killed them were injuries . If anything next season will be like what we saw from 2013 to 2016 . When they only had aging cc and a decent Tanaka . It is gonna be a sad season . Can only hope sevy returns to his 2018 form in 2022 or we could end up seeing a repeat of the early 90s for the next few years. As for e we hat cashman says , the 2018 off season taught me to not pay attention to a single word out of cashman’s or Hal’s mouths . They are liars and truly don’t care about winning a ws .
I agree a middle infielder with his potential, 4 years of control and being as young as he is, may be worth more than a 1-2 type pitcher with 3 years of control.
I haven't seen anyone suggest the Yanks make that trade though, just their opinion on what they think it would cost though?
Then again I have a few people on ignore so..

I think people forget Torres was only 23 this past season. Castillo is 4 years older than him. Castillo is very good but does beat up on a lot of bad offenses. I just wouldn't give up a cornerstone piece for a #2 pitcher. Pitchers break too easily. Torres is a potentially franchise altering talent.
What I want to know is where did anyone read that it would take Torres to get Castillo ? But if that is what it did take then I would do it . Not because I am underrating Torres but because they need a #2 a lot more than they need Torres . As good as Torres is , they won’t win a ws until they fully address their biggest problem . And that is the rotation after cole . I mean people forget in order to get quality you have to give up quality .
Ok what was his source that said torres would be required to get Castillo ? Because from what I read it could take Gil , Dominguez and Garcia to get Castillo . Remember the reds are trying to shed payroll so why would they shed 4 mill in salary in Castillo just to take on 3 mill or so in salary in Torres ? Torres this past season made 3 mill , and will get more than 3 mill in 2022 since he is under arbitration . Castillo makes 4 mill for 2021 . Reds won’t trade Castillo to save just a million or less . They want to save the 4 mill on Castillo
A little bit, its just so frustrating to see all these fairly simple ways for us to get much better and for Cash and Hal not do anything about it. I don't think starting the yr with the rotation pieces we have, like Cash mentioned, is going to get us anywhere close to the WS.
I'm a big supporter of Torres, I think he adds a lot to the lineup, but it has been 3 years already and honestly, he doesn't look all that much better than Lindor, outside of his clutch hitting. If Lindor is as good as he'll become, as far as the bat goes, then i would absolutely trade him for Castillo, and simply re-sign Didi.
I know everyone sees Frazier as expendable, but with his ability to possibly play all 3 outfield positions, especially when you have 3 walking injuries, in Stanton, Judge and Hicks out there, he's more important now than ever. Not to mention he was also one of the top hitters on the team last season. I also don't see a scenario where Cincy would simply take frazier without asking for Deivi, whereas if Torres was offered, they might consider that a straight up trade.
What more do you expect out of Torres, at this point? Clearly, you think there's a lot more to him. Will he hit 45 home runs or more? Will he bat .330? I see neither happening. He's special because of his bat at SS, but even with 38 home runs his WAR was lower than Didi's 2 best seasons as a yankee. I'd hate to lose a player like him, but you gotta give something in order to get something.
The trade I mentioned is marginally lopsided in the Red's favor, but not by much. I put the trade in the trade sim and:
Trade accepted
This appears to be a fair trade proposal for each team. Now post it to our Trade Board to see what other users think of it.

I would like to see what accepted trades others can come up with that does not include Torres.
So willing to trade a player you love makes someone less of Yankees fan? Really ? The Yankees need starting pitching alot more than they need Torres . I don’t really want them to trade torres either but if it were to finally make them have a ws caliber rotation then I would do it . And Castillo likely does that . Plus then they could trade for lindor to replace Torres . No player should be labeled untouchable if a team is in a win now mode . And the Yankees high payroll suggests they are in that mode . Or they would be doing a rebuild instead
If they do that then forget about winning a World Series anytime soon . It amazes me that Hal is willing waste coles best years on his contract just to save 24 million . What a joke
But if they really are gonna do that then they should just trade Sanchez , judge , hicks , Torres , Chapman , Green , and anyone else they can and just start a rebuild already .
It is just sad and pathetic that they wasted the last ten years for nothing
Yada, yada, yada. Jorge please change the record. (or cd ) It getting old.
If you measure success based solely on WS wins I am afraid no matter what team you root for you will be sadly disappointed.
In the last decade Yankees led all of MLB with 921 regular-season wins, and they made the postseason seven times. They ended the decade on a high with consecutive 100-win seasons.
All those wins didn’t even get them one ws appearance , regular season wins don’t mean a thing once the playoffs starts . In 4 of those 7 times they made the playoffs they failed to even make the alcs . And yeah they won 100 games in 2018 but were destroyed by a team in the divisional series that also won more than 100 games and then in 2019 lost to a team with more than 100 wins as well so tell me are those back to back 100 win seasons really anything to brag about ?
Is the glass always half empty Jorge?
Look, no-one wants the Yankees to win more than I do. No one takes more pride in their winning tradition and history. I am just as disappointed as you in some ways. However I am also a realist. Rather than *****, moan and complain I choose to find the silver linings, and my glass is half full. Yes they have not won a WS in the last decade, however I take solace in them winning more games than any team in MLB. Is that evidence of a FO not committed to winning? You seem to believe it is, I disagree.
The FO will not always make the moves YOU or I believe they should. We are not GM's, nor do our inane ramblings on a message board matter in the grand scheme. Moves will be made in the best interest of the organization in keeping with winning tradition.
If our ramblings on this matter make no difference in the grand scheme then why do you care so much about my views of the front office and team? Why not just brush it off and ignore it? Why are you the only one right now making such a big deal about what I said ?
And as for taking solace in them winning so many games in the regular season , with more and more teams being added to the playoff brackets , regular season records are starting to become less and less important . Just look at last season , with 8 teams making the playoffs in each league all a teams needed to be to make the playoffs was to finish at .500 or better .
Yet the teams with the two best records ended up appearing in the World Series....
[QUOTE=spliff(TONE);33752391]Yet the teams with the two best records ended up appearing in the World Series....[
And in 2019 , the last full season of baseball it was a wildcard team that won the World Series .
Two issues. One this last season was an anomaly, you shouldn't put too much stock in the outcome
Two. I agree and have made the claim numerous time regarding the expanded post season. The regular seasons significance becomes minimized, in fact starting to resemble hockey and the NBA. I am totally against expanded post season for that very reason. Less and less import on the regular season. The MLB is trying to attract a younger audience, be careful you risk losing the diehard old farts who actually love the game!
So what should become of the regular season? Should it be mainly a preliminary seeding for post season play, akin to hockey? Should it be shortened to less than 100 games? Mine skin crawls at the thought.
At least the division winner is still rewarded....kinda.
....or the fact that just like another poster you remind me of (Sluggo), you can't seem to figure out how to properly quote other posters.
I will say that the Jays and Red Sox certainly look to be aggressive in FA. The Rays are still the team to beat in the division. If the Yankees really reset to 2005 payroll as suggested, they will quickly be looking up from the bottom.
If the Jays add Lindor and a good pitcher? They will be formidable.
Sox looking at Paxton and Kluber. If they get their staff straight? They will be really tough.
Cashman's patience may work against him.
If the Jays grab Lindor and a quality pitcher we maybe looking up at them in the division for the next couple yrs. IMO the CWS are right there with the Rays also and they don't appear to be close to done.
If the Sox get Paxton and Kluber and they return close to their prime forms, which is a long shot, that makes them better but without Sale all yr I'm not sure they will be much better than
Kluber and Paxton alone if they are healthy make the Red Sox starting rotation better then the Yankees current rotation. Sale is supposed to be back the same time as sevy and Rodriguez is supposed to be ready for opening day . Rodriguez , kluber , Paxton and then later sale is better than anything the yanks have behind cole . Couple that with the jays getting lindor and a quality pitcher and we will be looking at a Yankees team battling the O’s for 4th place .
