Get ready for the Blue Jays are the team to beat in the East takes.
Wow Quintana got 8m from the Angels... at that price Kluber was a deal
maybe, i just don't see how it makes sense to pay Yates that kind of money when you could have had Hand. Maybe the Jays were sick of finishing 2nd on every FA they had been in on so they overpaid?? IMO 6yrs150 was an over pay for a 31-32yr old Springer, who is likely going to end up as a corner OFer in a couple yrs.
The Yankees are still the favorites in the AL. That said, I have a feeling they are going to do something big. Just have a feeling. By 1/25, the Yankees will make a significant addition. Let's see if I'm right.
from your fingers to the baseball gods ears. Any predictions what you think they are going to do.
No way its Bauer at his current or even close to his asking price. If they are going to spend big on another starter i'd rather see them wait and go after Thor next yr vs Bauer this yr. Bauer is a very good pitcher but nothing in his history says he's a no doubt Ace and certainly doesn't deserve Cole like money. I just don't see Hal being willing to commit 65M+ to 2 pitchers deep into their 30's. I'd love to see them trade for another starter but i think they would have to move Otto first.
It wouldn't surprise me whatsoever if the traded for a Jon Gray or Taillon type starter. Someone with tons of talent but could benefit from a change on scenery type. That seem to be Cashmans type
I still think they end up with another BP arm... we'll see but i definitely hop your right
Sounds like jays really are trying to load up and sign Brantley as well.
I think that 6/150 deal for Springer is pretty hefty for this market(good for him though)
Also feels like DJs deal was a steal based on what Springer got.

Bingo. I wonder if they plan on using Brantley as a DH because there OF is pretty stacked now with Springer, Gurriel Jr. and Hernandez. Olney thinks thats the best OF in the AL
I would think another starter would be more important than getting another OFer. If they land one of Bauer or Castillio then i would be far more concerned with the Jays
Great article about Kluber and reasons why we should be very optimistic about him next yr

I'm not in touch with Manny Machado's maid or any other insider, but I really believe Cashman and Hal are really under pressure to win a WS with this core of players. That gives them two years. The Mets have gotten better and Toronto is loading up. Where we were (are) the AL favorites, it just got closer. And the nuclear buildup in LA and SD means even if we get to the WS, we are going to need some serious fire power to win. I think Hal will approve us going over the LT if not for someone like Bauer, then to grab one or two really good bullpen arms. I really believe he will respond to what Toronto is doing (and try to get us closer to what SD has done).
The thing that concerns me is trading Frazier, Andujar and a couple of young arms. This team is a walking infirmary and it will only be a matter of time till Judge, Stanton and Hicks are all on the IR. Trading those guys leaves little reinforcements I agree with you about Tauchman but he's only one piece. Who are the other OFs? if Frazier and Andujar are gone? Wade?
While I know cashman can be ninja, this is where a lack of planning and foresight appear. If you are really thinking about moving Frazier, sign Brantley
I think Taijuan Walker is a good risk signing. not a big splash but he has some serious upside.
Hand and Osuna would be nice for the pen.
I agree that there will be a move of impact but I don't know how much operating room Cashman has because of Stanton, Judge and Hicks.
I would love it if you were correct and Stanton was part of the move but I highly doubt that happens.
I agree with Day. I think we add a couple relievers and an SP like walker.
can't forget about our big OF acquisition of Greg Allen, lol. We need to keep guys like Frazier and Andujar, unless we can get a younger TORP for them, because as you said our OFer are so injury prone. I would love to see them sign Brantley, he's basically a LHed version of DJ. He would give us that solid LHed bat to break up all our RHed hitters we have.
I would hope Hal realizes that this current cores window is closing fast. It makes zero sense to sign Cole or bring DJ back if they aren't going to go all in to win the next 2yrs. Especially with the opportunities they have to take advantage of the cheap talent available they should atleast be willing to go up to 230m. With the CBA over at the end of this yr what the point of resetting the luxury tax?
At minimum they need to replace Kahnle spot in the BP. Losing him last yr made a huge difference in the quality of our BP, which was very evident in the playoffs. The guy i would like is Rosenthal, he average 98mph with his FB with close to a 2500 spin rate, which gives him one of the better FB in baseball. He also had a unreal K% 41.6
last yr. IMO he'd be a great replacement for Kahnle. Osuna would be another really solid option as well. My only concern with Hand is that would be adding another LHed pitcher to the BP when we already have Chapman and Britton
Just a guess on my part but it wouldn't surprise me if they are counting on getting some big production from guys like Nelson, Abreau, Kriske and Lasagna. They all have huge potential as relivers but don't have anywhere close to enough experience to be counted on, especially in the playoffs
I still think Aaron Sanchez would be an interesting buy low option. He's got a great FB/CB combo that would really play up out of the pen in short outings. It would be interesting to see what Blake could do with him
I'd love Brantley but they'd have to move one of Judge, Hicks, Stanton of Frazier and the easiest would be Frazier. I don't want that.
Honestly, at this point, I would be fine with moving Judge. I love him as a player but if you added Brantley to the lineup instead of him? I just think it's a more complete lineup.
The reason I'd be fine with moving him is that the window to which you refer, is closing even faster than you said. I think it's closed. I think they need to open a new window. One that is built around Torres and Frazier with the expectation that Dominguez, Peraza, Medina and Gil will bolster it over the next couple years.
Judge is a soon to be 29 year old, oft injured behemoth. I do not see his career in the OF lasting very long. That isn't an indictment of his ability. It is an observation based on how guys of his stature age.
As it stands, this lineup will have 3 righty DHs. after the next 2 years. Stanton, Judge, Voit, I could even add Sanchez to that list if he re-learns how to hit.
Cashman has built a really awkward team reliant on the wrong things. As stated since the arrival of Stan ton, I do not believe this team will or can win a title. I hope I am very wrong and they prove it a couple times over but I just don't see it. They need to change.
