2016 last season he hsd a e.r.a under 4. and a few years over 5 since good stuff does not equate to being a effective pitcher..

i looked at his contract details, MLB.Com has Marquez listed as arbitration eligible but he signed a 5 yr 43m deal with an AAV of 8.5m. With that kinda cheap contract we'd absolutely have to blow them away with an offer for them to even consider it. I like the idea but there are going to be cheaper solutions available .
I completely agree with everything you said about Paxton. If the medical team approves him and he's willing to structure a 1yr deal heavily incentive based i'd have no problem bring him back. I don't think there is another FA starter that offers as much possible value compared to his salary as Paxton does next yr. 1yr 5m base isn;t going to break the bank for the Yanks and its only 1yr, so the risk is minimal IMO. If he gets his 2019 2nd half form even for 150 innings he would massively out perform his contract.
I also agree that i hate to lose him for nothing. He was so good when he was throwing 97-100 and had his split and CU working and very fun to watch. I would just hate to see him walk only to rebound somewhere else like Gray has. Atleast we got a good pick for Gray for Paxton we would get nothing. I would actually be surprised if he didn't have an average Paxton yr or slightly better next yr i just highly doubt its with us.
Thing is his current injury is to his elbow , isn’t that kind usually a precursor to TJ? Even if it isn’t I don’t think it’s worth any money to take that chance
Let's seeif I've got that right, if we don't have a sure trip to the WS next year, there's no sense watching any games next year, right? Don't let this secret out or about 25 or 27 other stadiums will be as empty as all of them were this year. When all of those 27 teams fold, who will be left for the Yanks to play?
Hence the move to the BP where he can scrap trying to find a 3rd/4th pitch that he can throw effectively. Moving to the BP where he can just throw his plus or better FB/CB would take care of his problems as a starter, 3rd/4th pitches and getting through a lineup multiple times.
If Hal decides to spend the off season gets alot easier, DJ, Bauer and sign a couple relievers at the top of the market. Use some of the younger cheap talent we have to acquire another TORP were going to see teams dump because of their salary . Look for similar salary dumps of expensive high end talent to get more contact orientated, SH or LHed hitters to balance the lineup. Even if Hal opens his wallet wide they won't exceed the 3rd luxury tax threshold so all 3 of DJ, Bauer and Realmuto won't happen but they definitely need to explore an upgrade at C.
If Hal isn't going to let us spend much that means we have to get creative and take fliers on guys like Sanchez who could be had for a minimal salary VS a Yates, Hand, ect that are still going to get 7m plus a yr in this market. The Rays didn't build a WS team on the budget they did by playing it safe and not taking cheap, short term risk
Get them both. They are both coming back from injury and I can't imagine they are going to be in big demand. Give them 1yr2 -3m base with incentives and with the way the market for those type of guys is shaping up we could probably get them cheaper than that.
With the Yanks extremely likely to non tender Kahnle because he'll miss all of next yr, we'll need atleast 2 middle innings guy. I'd be happy if they took a chance on either.
If teams non tender as many players as they expect and the resulting FA market its very probable these guys will have to take a MILB deal with roster bonus or something if they make 40 and 25 man roster.
I'm not too enthusiastic about 2021 or 2022 for that matter. The Yankees are starting to operate like a dinosaur. We are never ahead of the curve. We are a large market team that has fallen in love with small market strategy. The only problem is that we don't follow through with that small market strategy and sell players when they have excess value (Voit) or when they approach FA (Judge) to collect more assets.
We are 4 years into our window, which is closing fast, and now we have a true ace. For a big market team, that means go all in. Spend money and sell minor league assets to acquire missing pieces and hold players accountable. This means (a) extend DJ, (b) sign Bauer, (c) trade for Lindor, (d) sign tanaka and (e) use Sevy/German to bolster the bullpen. Obviously, Sanchez, Voit and Andujar would be used as trade chips and Gardy would be watching games on TV.
If we aren't willing to do that, then our window is closed and we should just sell to acquire young assets and prepare for future FA signings. Sell Chapman, Judge, Voit, Ottavino, Hicks, Sanchez. Sign the SS from DR. Shame Stanton to accept a trade and eat as much cash as necessary. Get control of payroll and let the kids play. Reset below cap. Let covid run its course. I'd probably still sign DJ and Brantley to provide some leadership. We could get a kings ransom and still have a team which competes for a wild card in 2021. Frazier, Brantley and Florial in the OF. Gio, Torres, Wade/Estrada, DJ, Higgy in IF. Andujar at DH. Cole, Deivi/Sevy, German, Monty, Schmidt/King in rotation. Bullpen still would have Britton and Green. I bet that team would be more enjoy able to watch and the results probably wouldn't be as different as you think.
And then after the season fill the holes and start a new window. Sign Lindor. Sign Thor. Bolster the bullpen a bit.
Overall, a fair assessment.
If they were to sell though, I would not agree with signing DJ/Brantley.
Not sure I understand your desire to sign them to decent sized free agent contracts if they're going into a short rebuild as you're suggesting.
They could go much cheaper routes if you're looking for veteran leadership. Those vets could be ones that will only require one year as basically stop gaps until lindor/others are free agents a year later.

I completely understand the confusion. I would view scenario #2 as more of a re-tool than rebuild. Both guys are solid contact hitters (1 Lefty; 1 righty). The kind I think makes a line up flourish and will give us a punchers chance next year and be nice in 2022 when we should be competing again. DJ would solidify 1B and i really don't mind seeing him for 4 more years. Brantley should be effective for another 2 years and won't cost so much. Neither kills our financial flexibility. We would be around $148M or so assuming you pay down Stanton's deal to about $15M annually.
WHO SAID IT WAS A WRONG STATEMENT? Wasn't me. LOL!!!! What's that have to do with the difference between the SEASON and the POST season. I can loan you a dictionary if you need to look up the word post. It's called the POST season because it's AFTER the REGULAR season. The regular season is OVER.
for a team like the yanks with this much talent to go 11 years without even being in the world series is insulting.. and i do not see the yanks going to the series any time soon unless major changes are made.. and since i doubt that would happen the yanks would have missed a chance and will only go backward...the dodgers have been to the series 2 times in the last 4 years....it shows you what a good gm and great ownership can mean to a team...
