Whatever man I stand by my point . If you want to disagree go ahead I don’t care . Because you obviously don’t get my point .

I was psyched to get Gray when he came to the Yankees. I figured he would be the TORP we desperately needed. I was wrong. If I remember correctly, we basically gave him away to Cincy which I thought was wrong. He did pitch pretty well on the road.
I was never convinced he was the torp they needed . I thought he was a good number 2 starter at best. I don’t blame the yanks for trading him , he simply was not good with them . Mainly because he moved from a very pitcher friendly ballpark to a hitter friendly ball park that is yankee stadium . Then there is the fact that the front office doesn’t know how to properly develop and coach starting pitchers .
1. Gray was a solid risk. I viewed him as a #2 behind Sevy at the time. He failed. But, none of the guys traded for him succeeded either.
2. Paxton was a solid risk. Great stuff. Always concerned about his ability to stay healthy. He performed as expected. Some signs of brilliances, but he was never able to throw significant innings.
3. The real problem we have always had is being reluctant to over pay for pitchers who may have slotted in nicely at the #2 and #3 slot. Although neither is an ace. How nice would it be to have Wheeler or Corbin right now for another 4 years.
4. The organizations failure to develop, successfully trade or buy solid starting pitching is the achilles heal of this run, which I view as over. IMO, its hard to see a clear route to improving that pitching this year without over paying for Castillo or buying Bauer (which is unlikely).
5. If we reboot, I see us being able to seriously compete again in 2023. Its only 2 years away. We are not serious about competing in 2021 anyway. Cole will still be solid. Young starters will get some time to mature. Lindor can still be targeting in the offseason and be under 30. Maybe this kid Dominguez turns out to be as good as advertised. The pieces that need to be moved are Judge, Hicks, Chapman, and Britton. We should be able to get a nice haul of young talent for that crew and I still see the remaining team being above .500.
I don’t see how they can seriously compete when both britton and Chapman will be gone in 2023 and we don’t know what sevy will be like by then . Plus cole will be 34 or 35 by then . His peak years behind him . They need to rebuild period . Rebooting didn’t work 5 years ago and it isn’t going to work out in less than 2 years . If the yanks want to seriously compete they have to pay for the starting pitching they need now .
