Especially if he is hitting the way he is.

Exactly at 240 mill they couldn’t beat the rays either , what makes you think they can beat the rays at 210 mill? The rays likely still have better pitching than the Yankees . The Yankees will be losing some pitching at 210 mill and some offense . They won’t be getting any better at 210 million
So why is it the Yankees must spend more than $210M? Why is ok for Rays to win on a shoe string but the Yankees must exceed $240M in your opinion? Why is not acceptable for Hal to adopt the Rays philosophy? Billy Beane changed how players were evaluated and valued, maybe Hal has finally realized he needs a new and different approach?
The rays were bad for years and didn’t spend for years and were never building to win . For the Yankees to do what the rays are doing they need to be bad for years like they were in the early 90s . If you really want the yanks to adopt the rays philosophy then they should trade Sanchez, hicks , judge , Chapman and Britton , and let dj go and bring back no one . The rays had high draft picks for several years and traded their stars rather than pay them . Something the yanks don’t do .I want hal to do exactly what the rays did , and that is trade their big stars for really good prospects and be bad for a few years so that they can draft more really good prospects . The Yankees as they currently are , can’t be both competing for a ws and be built like the rays or other low payroll teams . Like it or not if they want to compete for a ws their payroll has to be more than 210 mill
before 2018 the rays had 4 losing seasons in a row is that acceptable to yankee fans?
Yanks should never have to go through a rebuild like that due to the massive payrolls they are capable of sustaining. Doesn't mean they couldn't learn a thing or two from teams like the Rays though. Also doesn't mean high payroll teams can't have off years either. There's no one right way to field a championship team.
If it meant they got really good prospects during those 4 years and traded their stars for more really good prospects I would. I mean the results are more or less the same anyway . No WS appearances . The one big problem I have seeing them go that route is that I don’t have the faith in the front office to draft the right players , especially pitchers .
If they can sustain massive payrolls then they should atleast invest their money in the right pieces , they keep investing in offense first . Look at their core , other than judge . Nearly every prospect they have brought up over the last 5 seasons has been more bat than glove .
Losing is never acceptable to Yankee fans, nor is it an option. I was playing devil's advocate with Jorge in an attempt to flesh out the inherent contradiction and what I perceive as hypocrisy in the opinion. There is a singular truth, Yankee fans demand a winner each and every season. As unrealistic as it may be, Yankee fans believe The Bronx Bombers should win the WS every season. It's a birth rite. ;)
