A lot of people tried (unsuccessfuly BTW) to make the "word" akin to ethnic insult words. Ww all know them. I grew up saying them along with The special "word") We kids really didn't mean any of the words as insults just joking and not really an insult. None of us knew any black people back then. I'm also not making any excuses. WE were ignorant.

To me, the "word" now should be off limits to non white people because of the special case black people have, namely slavery. Same thing, I think for native Americans who became virtual and actual slaves themselves in this country and had their land taken from them by force. That's how I view it anyway.

I agree context matters, but in Joe Rogan's instance the context actually makes it worse. He wasn't saying it to some friends in private who are cool with it, he was saying it on a podcast that is literally intended to be watched and viewed by the public.

But the context is relevant. Rogan wasn't calling anyone a ******. He wasn't using the word as a greeting to friends or even to tell a joke. He was directly quoting others, typically black men, in their use of it and commenting about its lack of acceptability compared to days past.

Also, you are not referring to the context as much as you are the logistics of its use. With that in mind, you must believe Biden should be impeached for saying it during a senate hearing, which is designed to reach more people than a silly podcast, right? For what it's worth though, Rogan has often referred to his podcast as just him have conversations with friends or people he finds interesting and if people listen so be it.

how can this not be confusing as **** when the word is so bad and racist that it causes outrage, but then the same word can be used as a term of endearment. no.

It's not confusing. You just don't accept the terms in which its used which no one gives a flying **** about. Its not your determination to make nor does anyone have to justify to you why whites and other races shouldn't be using a word that (when others use it) is meant to denigrate black people. Are you going to cry some more that you can't say it?
