Yes, I am wary of all people. I just gave an example of that. I’m not wary of middle eastern men randomly kidnapping my child. I am wary of acquaintances, who are mostly white. Different situations call for different suspicion and it’s not always focused on people of color.
You’re attitude of not wanting to impact the feelings of people we are suspicious of is why there are so many mass shootings in 2020.
You: “That kid is weird but I’m not going to say anything because it might hurt his feels.”
Kid later commits a mass shooting...
Also you “I never thought he’d ever do anything like this.”
No, I definitely think it's prudent to be wary of the weird, loner kid who is exhibiting behavior of a possible mass shooter. But I don't think it's prudent to be wary of all white kids and assume they could be mass shooters. The vast majority aren't.
That's the difference you fail to see. For the white person to elicit your suspicion they must be acting or exhibiting the signs (weirdness) associated with mass shooters. For the middle eastern man, all they have to do is be middle eastern for you to regard them with suspicion.
If they were in any way equal, I'd expect you to regard every white person who enters a movie theater with suspicion, or every white person who enters a classroom, or a nightclub, with the same suspicion you treated a middle eastern person on public transportation. But we both know you do not. Why is that?
You apparently missed the part where I said they sat in positions which would be perfect to gain a tactical advantage if they were looking to control passengers in a hijacking. This is what raised my suspicion. I was sitting in a position which had a view of the entire train car and happened to view this. This is your “weird, loner kid.” Had they not sat in corners of each other and conveniently almost in sync, I wouldn’t have even noticed.
