The two-day long manhunt for the Baltimore County resident who eluded arrest and shot and injured two police officers in Cockeysville ended early Friday morning when authorities took him into custody miles away in Fallston, according to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers arrested 24-year-old David Emory Linthicum at 5:43 a.m. “as peacefully as possible” in a stand of woods near the Fallston Mall Shopping Center after an eight hour standoff, Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey R. Gahler said.
Authorities say they chased Linthicum from near his home in Cockeysville after he shot a Baltimore County Police detective Thursday evening and stole the detective’s pickup truck.
The detective is in critical condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he is on life support, said Dr. Thomas Scalea at a news conference just after midnight Friday.
Officers stopped the truck using spike strips, and Linthicum went into the woods where police hemmed him in, according to the sheriff’s office. Gahler said Linthicum resisted being arrested to a minor degree but was not injured in the process.
I wonder why every effort was made to apprehend the suspect "as peacefully as possible"?

There was a cop here in STL a couple years back, his name is Luther Hall, that was working downtown to keep protests peaceful when a group of thugs pinned him to the ground and beat him. It was so bad that he had to have multiple surgeries and has permanent damage for him as a result. People just don't realize the kind of hell like this that police are put through on a daily basis.
Thankfully, at least, they caught the guys that did it and they were sent to prison. He probably just didn't follow orders or something.
Really, it was probably just a big misunderstanding. It's not like one of the police that held him down had texted another cop earlier and said "But it's gonna be a lot of fun beating the hell out of these shitheads once the sun goes down and nobody can tell us apart," right? I mean, okay, that part did happen, but I'm sure it was taken out of context. It's not like the same guy livestreamed his actions that night to his girlfriend so he could show off for her. I mean, he did that, yeah, but all of them didn't do that, so really it's just one bad apple. Plus the other apples that helped to hold the other cop down so that one of the other bad apples could beat him.
It's just awful what the police have to go through.
Again there’s bad apples in all professions. There’s bad teachers, firefighters, professional athletes etc. You see a lot of really good cops like in this video who have to take **** from these people and pull the race card immediately while they have to pretty much take itQuote:

And you're all too happy to shrug off the bad ones. Four different cops either held someone down, beat him, or helped cover it up, all because they thought he was a random citizen at a protest and didn't realize he was one of them. He wasn't breaking the law; he wasn't resisting arrest; again, he was one of them. Do you think this is the first time they did it? Do you think they're the only ones that have done it? When the answer to all three of those is the same, "there's bad apples in every profession" is not an acceptable answer.

It's the only profession I know of that you carry a gun, and have the authority to physically beat the **** out of people for not complying, or shooting them if they run or give any level of what the cop considers resistance.

As I've said before, the whole structure of police needs to be changed. Because what we have right now are:
- minimally educated, if at all, people
- underpaid and overworked
- given massive resources for weapons and armor
- no knowledge of the laws they are asked to uphold
- most come from racist backgrounds (families and communities were racist)
- immunity from accountability in most cases
- massive societal support from the same type of people who stormed the capitol (ironically, because those people didn't give a crap about cops that day)
quick question for anyone who might know this-
are cops cycled around the turfs they work? Because a cop in downtown St Louis sees the worst of society, and likely becomes de-sensitized, can become racist, trigger happy, etc, from personal experience. Where a cop in Wayzata, MN (where I grew up), sees Mercedes, BMWs, white ladies with lattes, and an occasional teenager in his Range Rover make a turn without using their signal.
Do cops get cycled around, so they don't become cynical and frankly jaded in their jobs?
I would guess that the higher ups prioritize familiarity of a specific area over having their officers avoid becoming cynical and jaded.Quote:
