Once again kids tend to form their own culture since the fifties. Dressing like a gangster rapper is no different than young white girls dressing like Janis Joplin back in the day. Generalizing might be somewhat specific to where you live and what has transpired in the past. In Indy, the Police Chief is black as are a number of fairly highly placed administrators. Still, if I were a young black male and the police started talking to me as I was walking down the street I would freeze and respond politely. It's not all police, but a matter of who you run in to.
I have had a lot of cop friends overs the years. Probably because my best friend is a retired firefighter. Oh, they pretend to have a bit of a jockular rivalry, they get along and respect each other. I live in a small town and know all of them. I have had pizzas delivered to their office. Some of them went to high school with my kids. Makes it pretty easy.
We have a couple of black families in the neighborhood even though most here are pretty much hillbillies. They walk down the sidewalks and take their kids for carriage rides and such. Pretty peaceful here and I don't think anyone is scared. But this is not the reality many live in. More's the pity.
