If they don't know then it's not them being racist, it's the institution. The war on drugs has a racist foundation, but the DEA agent on the border arresting people bringing in pot isn't a racist if they don't ever think about race.

The Pinto is not close to the most deadly car ever. I think it was mostly famous because Ford chose to save $11 per car to leave the risk of fire. They were eventually acquitted of the charges.
The model T was a murder machine, but that was probably more because nobody had a reasonable level of fear with it.
I think it was the Mitsubishi Mirage that was the worst modern car statistically, but I may have the model wrong.
Another factor in car accident survivability is just plain mass. The Ford F450 is going to win in most collisions, but it's rate of causing accidents is really high too.
What does a black man think when he sees a white man in a nice suit?
What does a black man in a nice suit think when he sees a man covered in gang tattoos?
What does a man covered in gang tattoos think when he sees a black man in a police uniform?
Let's not pretend only white people make quick assessments (and that's what they are, not judgments or assumptions of accuracy) when they see people they don't know.
wow, really? you think people in rural areas are what, all cannibalistic hillbillies?
the worst you'd get in a rural area for directions are things like 'you head down this road until you get to the old Johnson place and take a left'........otherwise, the typical person living in rural areas is far more likely to be open, honest, WYSIWYG than my experience of people who've spent most of their lives in cities..........hell, I owned a house for 10 years and had no key for it.
Sure you're not wrong, but think of it from the perspective of a black person, meaning constantly facing prejudism because of your skin color.
It's a very real issue that certain people have to deal with. It's an every day pressure on their shoulders which is not on ours.
This is what should be addressed.

Yes, exactly.
The entire issue is the "systemic racism", or racism perpetuated by the institution. Many people dont really understand this institutionalization. This is also why it is so hard for many people to see how they themself are feeding into this very institution.

We ALL make quick assessments and stereotypes. None of the stereotypes which apply to you or me carry with it anything close to the burden that the stereotypes that come along with having black skin.
You can see it in this very thread. The statistical backing as to why it is ok to stereotype black skin. It's nothing anyone did in a malicious manner, but it actively feeds into the very racist institution which scoots had just mentioned. And this institution is the entire problem. See where this is going..?

A couple of years ago on a vacation, a friend and I had a cab take us to the closest Walmart to the area we were staying, which ended up being in a black neighborhood. After we got what we needed and were standing outside trying to call a cab to come back and pick us up, an older black man approached us and offered to give us a ride and told us that we “shouldn’t be in this neighborhood.” It wasn’t a threatening comment. He was just genuinely concerned.
I have been in a relationship with a woman for coming up on two years now who was born and raised in East St. Louis. We lived vastly different lives growing up. One of the first things we bonded over was St. Paul sandwiches, which is a regional thing and can really only be found at “rice houses” in the hood. If I mention wanting one, Keia will tell me not to go get one by myself and that she will get it for me. As a black woman who grew up in these neighborhoods, she also will not go to them after dark.
Racial prejudice isn’t just a white to black issue. It’s also a black to white issue, and there are a lot of people who aren’t ready to have that conversation.
but the same goes in reverse....think of it from the perspective of a white person, constantly unsure how or if you dare make eye contact with a black person....or my favorite, acting like because I'm white I was pro-slavery...hell most whites weren't back THEN and in that time frame MY family was farming in Norway
I'm not equating that remotely to any unfair mindsets of too many....but it's not as high a percentage of people as most blacks seem to think.
Back in the time of the Rodney King beating I ran a store in the Seattle area and had a lot of regular customers who I knew at least by name, many of them black. Virtually every last one of them instantly started acting like ALL whites, including me who they knew, shared some responsibility. Throughout that mall, for weeks I didn't know whether to acknowledge them (which many said 'what you looking at') or try NOT to make eye contact (where some said 'oh now you can't even look at me')....couldn't win
Again I share...
