They do have some similarities.

There's definitely a lot of people only caring about data until it stops supporting their opinions/perspectives here. I'm going to post a link where you can check all the statistics I'll use from 2017:
https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s...ables/table-43
Before I say anything, I should remind everyone that black people make up somewhere between 13-14% of the population. They make up 51% of all homicide victims (https://vpc.org/revealing-the-impact...victimization/). Anyway, the numbers you usually hear to support the case that the police are racist include, for example, a disproportionate # of traffic stops, arrests, and of course, homicides from the police, but when you check the crime data it starts to make total sense. Black people disproportionately commit crime of almost all categories. Some that stand out include violent crime (37.5%), robbery (54%), and of course, murder and manslaughter (54%). Again, this is coming from 14% of the population, or more likely closer to 6-7%, since roughly 90% of cases of those types tend to be commited by men. Weird that you never hear accusations that the police are sexist towards men, right? Except it's not cuz men just commit more crime than women do. You know how far the "Mens Lives Matter" movement would go? It would go nowhere because 99% of people would be honest enough to admit that men commit far more serious violence than women and thus find themselves in contact with police at higher rates than women.
What stands out on the other end of things is how normal the numbers look for crimes related to drunken behaviors (14% across the board). In other words, basically everyone drinks and drives across all demographics and social statuses, and the policing doesn't descriminate. By contrast, black people commit violent and almost all other crimes at a rate that is generally at least twice as proportionate as it should be (around 27-28%), and as high as 3.75 times (54%) for big ones like, y'know, murder. The police aren't targeting them because they're black, but because they're commiting those crimes at higher rates.
Another note, when speaking of trends such as homicide rates and gun violence it doesn't mean every single black male age 14-45 is out there committing gun violence. It only means that specific demographic is far more likely to commit gun violence compared to, say, a 65 year old Asian woman. Facts are not racist. Statistics are not racist. For example, About 90% of black gun violence is homicide. About 80% of white gun violence is suicide. (According to Brookings Institute research- "Race and Guns in America")
We see warzones in cities across the US even worse than Chicago (per capita shootings). In Chicago about 700 people were shot and killed in 2016. That's not even the highest murder rate per capita. There's a major issue with gun violence within black neighborhoods in America. Homicide by gun is the leading cause of death for black people (male and female) age 14-35. More than all other causes of death combined. Police have to work in those conditions.
As Brewersfan (**** the Brewers btw) has mentioned, you can easily find horrific videos of the police treating and murdering white people just as injustly. For whatever reason, people ignore these things in lieu of a few isolated incidents.
Everywhere basically has a curfew at 8 now in MN, news just reported that they had been monitoring extremist groups and have now warned the idea may be to go to undamaged areas tonight for further chaos...
It's kinda crazy, everyone arrested in St. Paul yesterday night from out of state.
Monitoring these anarchist groups now they are targeting new area supposedly with a plan to continue.
It's just about causing chaos, I dunno if that is to hurt the overall message and so on or what. It isn't the actual protesters or people in state upset out anymore at night as much as those trying to just use this to their advantage or something.
