So if some officers walked up and asked the crowd to move, some possibly not even hearing them ask (news reporters on the scene hadn't), you're OK with going straight to the pepper? Is that what you're saying? What if they didn't make it very clear, didn't say it very loud...and gave virtually no time between 'please move' and 'here come da peppah'? THOSE are the things we don't know....because news reporters on the scene and protesters on the scene say they never even HEARD the request......while officials say they did.......meaning the truth is likely somewhere in between.

Once again you miss the point. No one is justifying looting and vandalism but solving the problems that is causing them. Everyone under God green earth knows these things don't happen in a vacuum. No ones, in mass, get up in the morning and decide they are going to protest or riot just to be doing it. Unless you think these people are just criminals to begin with.

This something that happens went there is a loss of trust in the government to do the right thing, social unrest, throughout history, hell our country started out with the Boston Tea Party looting, destroying business property. The Crown refused to address their issues and we rebel.

I don' know how you equate finding the cause of protesting or looting as a justification. Especially where there questionable things happening that cause unrest.

If they wanted the street cleared they should have cleared it much earlier. They allowed those people there all day and didn’t make any attempt to clear the area until Trump came out. They had to abandon that mission or attack peaceful posters bc of their own planning. They made the wrong choice. Sluggo is acting like they stage a sit in. No such thing happened.

Let me help.

Because they are already paid for. They are already installed. Their upkeep has been paid for. Someone must have liked them. The city council must have approved them. Taking them dow would cost more to the tax payers than doing nothing at all.

That's all I can come up with on a short notice.

So you’d have no problem removing the statues if private entities agreed to pay for their removal? As a bonus we’d save on the upkeep!

Suppose a city had a vote to remove all the MLK street signs at a benefactors request (no cost to the city) and rename the street to what it once was. And the vote was to take down the signs…you know, give "the people what they want." Is that OK.

Why nit just leave things the way they are. What's the big deal here.

If they would have cleared it "much earlier" people like you would still complain.

Like Trump with the lockdown. Everyone say he should have done it sooner. Had it done it sooner, people would have said he shpould have done it sooner than that.

It’d Belshazzar for them to do though I imagine there would be secondhand consequences and they’d realize it isn’t a good idea.

Para 2…I am comparing something that some people may want while others may not. I have no problem with Confederate statues, I don't get the attraction for the Confederate flag n(*seems silly to me), I am supportive of MLK street names (although other may not be.)

Para 3…A lot of people don't like it / A lot of people do like it. (Like MLK Streets) Someone in the past must have thought it was worth allocating funds for them and the cities approve it. Money spent, money gone. leave them be. They're usually in parks or fairly nice places and look nice. Why tear them down??? Every day I drive past some plaza named after some Cuban exile of no meaning. I don't get it but it doesn't bother me.
