Some of this is how well we know the posters... It would be facinating if we could post without our names on it. If the responses would be different... more measured... I know when I see Brewersfan, or dbroncs I have a certain visceral reaction. My brain gears up thinking... here we go again.
I think this is a microcosm of the wider world... We see the D or the R next to someone's name and we respond partially because of that. God damn in group-out group ********
I would agree with you, but if you look at the social media replies to stories and live streams, at least at the state and local level, you've gone from an overwhelming majority supporting the lock downs and social distancing to now that crowd being split 50/50 with people wanting to open back up.
Of course, that has no basis in science, just my feeling on the issue, but the temperature is rising so to speak..
There is this wonderful thing about science. It's not static.A scientist may say... Don't worry, looking at the data in front of us it's not a big deal, then after 2 or 3 more studies come out they may say.... Holy **** the **** is going down. I have written papers about data I had, then conducted follow studies that suggested the original conclusions were wrong. If you are looking for something to always be right, one, don't look to science, two, don't look to anything, because that doesn't exist.
Difference is the experts were saying take this seriously in March. You are still saying this isn't a big deal.
You keep talking about the % mortality rate, but you don't want to address the actual numbers. You were the one who compared this to the flu, well it's now killed 38,000 people. For the last week it killed more people in the US than any other cause but heart disease (more than flu, more than murder, more than suicides).
And all this happened with the quarantine in place. We had 2,500 deaths from coronavirus just yesterday and you want to open everything back up.
I ask you: how many people are you OK with dying so we can open back up?
That's insane
I remember when the Cali numbers started leveling out the nation was at like 700 deaths a day. Had the whole country went lockdown when california did those probably woulda been our peak numbers. Right now we at almost 4 times that.
And I dont know if it's actually true, apparently some states have ZERO distancing protocols. I find that hard to believe, but if that's the case the numbers just gonna keep going.

“Models are not crystal balls,” added Gonsalves. “A modeler is giving you a range of potential outcomes. What he is doing is what a lot of people who don’t understand science do, they take the uncertainty built into a model and say, ‘Oh, well, it shows these people don’t know what they are talking about.’ He is playing with scientific uncertainty in order to say, ‘See, I know what is right here.’ He is somebody with a messianic complex. And to be clear, all of the models say this is going to be one of the worst epidemics we have ever faced.”
Can we all agree on this?
