The train of thought of let's move cautiously so we can keep things as open as possible..?

there's a monetary value attached to every aspect of Medicare...insurance in general
I'd agree, it sounds creepy to talk about a payment for a patient that dies, but it again is another payment for a service...and during Covid a service with increased expenses attached to it
certainly, there could be corruption...I was simply showing that it is likely considerably smaller than some media have inferred possible
that's one of the things that has bothered me throughout....too many seem to think in black and white terms...well, only X% die from it so it's not that bad........meanwhile as time has gone on I now personally know a half dozen who've had it, survived it, but had lasting problems as a result of it...just with the few people I know who've had it....some of which had ZERO risk factors
Its odd. I've been saying that for months and was subsequently called a trump dick sucker.
But, at this stage it is clear that there is no way to move cautiously. And that isn't based on the US. It is based on the world. You either lock **** up and wait for a vaccine, or go about your lives and wait for a vaccine. The in-between doesn't work and I think it has been made quite obvious that the former definitely doesn't work.
They get higher payments because there is greater risk required to successfully (or when the case goes wrong unsuccessfully) treat the patient. If doctors were expected to treat victims of a nuclear explosion, I suspect there are contingencies of law that give the institutions a higher payout for them as well. The additional supplies necessary, the isolation required, and so many other factors that make COVID (or a nuclear explosion) far more than just run of the mill medicine need to be compensated or the hospitals would a) treat them like normal and cause more infections or b) go out of business.
