Blanket statements are always bad and never make you look good. It’s funny because I feel like those kind of statements or prejudice are super rampant in the Desi (namely Pakistani) community.

At this point in my life, I’ll criticize specific groups but those groups are usually desi people, Muslim people, men, and democrats. Why? Because I have experience that allows me to actually make certain comments regarding certain communities.

Especially now, I try not to be overly critical of Trump supporters because my political beliefs and ethnicity automatically make me biased, which other Trumpers will point out, thus negating any argument I would make.

You’re not gonna win an argument with the likes of Sluggo or whoever else, blanket statements about white people just gives him ammunition to dismiss your argument. However, a well constructed point will likely go over his head so what’s the solution? Probably just to ignore a lot of these chumps.

If I didn't know the relative ages of the two of you, I'd 100% assume that you were the middle aged adult and he was the much, much younger adult. You and I have had our disagreements over the years but I respect the fact that you're actually self reflective, well spoken, intelligent, and willing to admit when you were wrong (which is especially rare to come across online).

Age is totally relative (as is mental maturity). Just because someone is your elder doesn't mean that they deserve your respect.

That’s fine but that’s their prerogative, it doesn’t mean that it reflects on the person I am now...I know you said age doesn’t really matter but I’d like to think the person I was 5 years ago or even 5 months ago is different than most of y’all just for the fact that I’m still biologically growing, that brain is almost done developing, baby.

One thing for sure that I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older though is when to walk away. I realize that a lot of these engagements are pointless and don’t lead to anything more than anger and in some cases, anxiety. I don’t agree with probably 80% of the posters here but I don’t need to dedicate my energy to a conversation that’s only going to leave me heated moreso than anything. Claymation in the Mets forum said something to me not too long ago that’s stuck; “the world doesn’t owe you anything but you don’t owe the world anything either” and I realize that in this context, a lot of these arguments and beef can be squashed just by walking away because entertaining it will only lead to escalation. Some people can be reasoned with but others can’t.

Sorry I went off on a bit of a tangent here but, I think some people here could probably benefit from some of what I said. Like I said dude, we’re all just human and things are much more complex than they seem.

I could benefit from that point myself and I’m the one making it lol. Like I said, we’re all human...sometimes you just gotta take 5 steps back and assess the situation both logically and emotionally. You feel a type of way? Feel that ****, just don’t lose your ****.

It’s funny because while I’m introverted, I find it easier to have these conversations in real life, for some reason. I think you’re right about the whole faceless strangers aspect, it’s easy to paint a picture of what I may look like based off of what I’ve said but PSD is a bit different than other social mediums in that it’s more like a community and a lot of people here have been here for years at this point. We’re for the most part faceless, but we’re not necessarily strangers. I remember being dumbfounded when MaryChristine made that ‘post a picture of yourself’ thread and nobody looked the way I pictured.

We’re only getting a microcosm of a persons opinions and personality on an online forum, I try to realize that before I judge. If somebody habitually says the same thing though, I’m going to assume that a portion of their lives revolves around that concept. I’m not going to drop names but I’m sure you can guess a few people I’m thinking of.

Agree. Every post you have posted in this discourse has been insightful. Nasty and Brewer conversation just got out of hand. I wouldn't have used " typical ignorant white guy response" to replied to Brewers' ignorant on what is going on in other countries, although I have thought it at times in other discussions because they are triggering words as proven by Brewer's overreaction.

I’ve been here for so long, it ain’t that easy just to leave lmao.

I think ‘typical white dude’ all the time...hell, I end up having women problems and I catch myself thinking stuff like ‘*****es ain’t shit’ but then I end up reminding myself, that just because one person - whether that be a white man, a cop, a woman, a black man, an extra terrestrial, or whatever else, it doesn’t mean that the vast majority are like a certain way.

I’ve been stopped and had issues with police as I’ve illustrated here time and time again. At that point, I view the issue as systemic and when I start to see patterns, I can’t help but start jumping to conclusions. When I see the rhetoric, the arguing style, and the political beliefs of somebody like Brewers, I can’t help but lump him into a specific demographic because I have encountered people just like him both on the internet and in real life. Is it right? No. Still, I recognize how insecure and self conscious we all are when it comes to the traits we can’t control so maybe it’s not the best to use those characteristics as the primary means of criticism.

At the end of the day, race matters and it shouldn’t be ignored but there has to be a deeper discussion than just ‘white man bad’ or whatever. Your race is a part of who you are but it’s not the defining characteristic. Some people want to make it that way, though. Both white people and Pakistani people. It’s fragile egos, fragile masculinity, and insecurity of being unable to develop a personality outside of what your parents taught you, what you learned in school, friends, etc. I think that’s why there’s so much tribalism as is. Man, I sound like a ****ing centrist.

Let’s just somehow invest in education and mental health, maybe things will get better lol.

I'm the one that brought it up and am not at all offended by your comments, as what you say carries very little weight to me. One can point out uncouth comments without being offended by them. There's a difference between making jokes with your buddies and trying to have an intelligent conversation with someone online that you're on the opposite side of an argument with.

So I don't know if this is standard but I thought I would share my experience with COVID testing so others can hear it and tell me if this is normal/abnormal for them.

I just took my dad to the hospital to get a lung biopsy. In order to do that, he had to get a COVID test prior to going into the hospital. He took the test Monday morning and he got the results some time yesterday afternoon. To get the results, they took a cotton swap that was about 4-5" long in both his nostrils. He said it did hurt a little bit but mostly was shocking. We drove up to the drive through and it took only a minute or so. The longest part was waiting in the line.

I was happy to hear I can expect to know in 24-48 hrs after hearing so often about it sometimes taking people a week or more in some places. I got **** to do and don't want to have to quarantine thru what looks like a beautiful weekend.

I was happy to hear I can expect to know in 24-48 hrs after hearing so often about it sometimes taking people a week or more in some places. I got **** to do and don't want to have to quarantine thru what looks like a beautiful weekend.

I just took my dad to the hospital to get a lung biopsy. In order to do that, he had to get a COVID test prior to going into the hospital. He took the test Monday morning and he got the results some time yesterday afternoon. To get the results, they took a cotton swap that was about 4-5" long in both his nostrils. He said it did hurt a little bit but mostly was shocking. We drove up to the drive through and it took only a minute or so. The longest part was waiting in the line.

I'm shocked that you got the results so quickly. My boss had to get it done and he waited 14 days before he got his results.
