It's not on people to follow recommendations, it's on the govt to require and enforce what needs to be.

It is on the people if you want to live in a relatively free society. I’d rather not have literally martial law to enforce health guidelines. I’d like to believe in the good nature of citizens to do what’s right. But some in this thread show how futile of a hope that is.
Businesses are going to fail. People are going to lose jobs. Families are going to have to sacrifice time with each other. But if it prevents hundreds of thousands of deaths, it’s worth it.
81 people died today from the coronavirus in Los Angeles County, which is the highest rate yet. Trump and his Trumptarded supporters care more about the economy and Wall Street than they do about the health and safety of the American people.
It doesn't take martial law. Theres ways to start giving fines, give it exposure. People dont speed to avoid speeding tickets they get once every few years.
Also, the govt should set some level of protocol, help small business out. I guess might have started, I heard something about a 3 phase re open.
One thing I like about it is nothing can take place until after 2 weeks of downward trend in cases. This right here is key because most likely the way most places will have a trend like this is if distance protocols are in place already.

The GOP has no problem funding hospitals. The issue is with funding states and trying to bail them out even more. Hospitals deserve to be funded. The program deserves to be funded. Essential workers deserve to be paid more. I would argue teachers shouldn’t but firefighters, grocery stores, police officers and any worker who has to work with customers face to face.

Once again big money funding the idiots to protest against their own interests. I love how some of them brought their guns. Exercising their white privilege. No other ethnic group could get away with protesting while armed. Not that I am pushing for the same right, but that it is dangerous to have armed people in a highly charged protest march. Think of the vandalism and police confrontation that occurs during various G7 and some Black protest. There is always idiots mix in those marches.
A bigger waste would be a bunch of skateboarders defying orders, getting Covid and draining our healthcare systems resources (nah I’m sure the retailer they work for has them covered).
Or maybe losing a leg to covid and not being able to skate again. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/19/enter...rnd/index.html

So what? Maybe the kids were taking Skate or Die a little to literally idk. It seems to me like you still don’t think this is serious bc it hasn’t gotten as serious by you. Here in NJ in the last 6 weeks we have had more deaths due to COVID-19 then we had bc of the flu in the past 3 years combined. These people are trying to protect the public. If kids where just ****ing themselves while giving the finger to the man like I did when i was one of them id be fine with it but this is about everyone. The more reckless people act the more it spreads. I have no problem with this or the hundreds of dollars it probably cost

There is a junior high that I can reach through the woods behind my house. I jogged over there the other day to see if I could use the track and admit I was a little disappointed when I found it locked. Still I find these protests a little confounding.
People protesting bc they cant feed themselves and their families without jobs is something I can understand.
Protesting for your constitutional right to use the skate park etc during a pandemic is stupider. I’m not sure what is going on. It could be the messaging of the media but it presented as a civil liberties issue most of the time

They had a lot of encourage to be stupid by the media, congressional members like John Kennedy in Louisanna, and of course the self-proclaimed "The Chosen One" Trump.
Last time I checked, we’re at 15% of testing capacity of what was promised or roughly 23,000,000. Spin that.
They do have a point that other parks/places (i.e. tennis courts) weren't treated the same.
I think at this point, instead of sand (which is going to cost a whole lot more to pull up than to put down) you make a couple arrests and fines and then see what happens. I hate to do that, but these orders don't have any teeth to them, so people will continue to do what they want.
I don’t think it is really a valid point unless they had a lot people using the tennis courts. It seems like this was a reaction to people actually using the Park. I think people get very carried away to the idea of equal treatment sometimes. Just bc they took this action with one part of the Park doesn’t mean they have to somewhere else. just bc they have tennis doesn’t mean they “have to” have cricket or some other sport when they are open. Same idea.
I also don’t see some massive expenditure here. Apparently they considered more security and decided on this instead. Personally I have no issue with paying a couple construction guys for the day instead of ticketing kids.
The one thing I will say is that kids who want to skate are going skate somewhere so Im not sure if it really accomplishes it’s goal. Maybe skaters skate and the kids just hanging stay home more.

https://covidtracking.com/data/us-daily
Testing has been linear since the first of the month. Average around 145k tests a day and 30-35k positives a day. I haven’t seen any data that addresses the possibility of multiple tests on a given person but the total testing as of the last time that website was updated is about 3.7 million tests. That’s a little over 1% of the US population.
Any thought of the country reopening is likely gonna need at least 3.7 million tests a day not every couple months.
Americans have a strong sense of entitlement even if it being irresponsible to general well-being. I can see us re-opening everything before any comprehensive testing is done. I will keep my black arse in the house until the medical experts give the all-clear, not Trump and his cohorts.
Tennis courts, tracks, etc. But I do agree with you that people get carried away with those things.
It isn't a mass expenditure, but compared to the labor costs of getting the sand there (likely mass-loading by a bulldozer into a dump truck and then dumping and spreading the sand) versus getting it out (shovels, wheelbarrows, etc) it's not a smart decision. It's just labor hours of employees already scheduled to work, but I am sure there will be other projects for them once things reopen.
A buddy of mine used to build his own ramps when we were young. This just means kids are going to skate through the neighborhood, or find parking garages at the empty malls now.
