COVID-19 Response: An issue that shouldn't be at all political....yet here we are

If George Bush responded to people criticizing our Katrina response by saying, we gave them stuff and they just want more, they are never happy, and media is a bunch pricks for all not saying how great a job we did. would you think he is ****ing prick? I would. I have no idea how good or bad a job he did on that one but I wouldn’t vote for him

Is he an unpleasant, arrogant, egotistical prick…absolutely. He is also not wrong 100% of the time. Of all the president's I've witnessed, he is the one that comes across the most as always putting the US interests first. I don't think that fact can be disputed.

All too often here, people react to the event and pay little attention to the whys and wherefores. E.g the US pays far more than its share in the Paris Green Deal, the UN, Nato, the WHO. Why should we? Trump doesn't think we should and pulls us out or puts pressure on others. Do you really think he doesn't care about the environment or world health or Europe's defense? We were being played for suckers and he stepped in.

The Iran deal was a joke. Pallets of money going t them for basically nothing. The Iranians weren't going to stop nuclear research or producing a weapon. We were looking foolish on that.

Pulling out of the Russian nuclear deal allowed us to expand missile defenses in the far east to counter China…the real enemy here. We're losing the advantage there and now there is hope to catch up.

Trump is what he is (and as I have said numerous times, he was never my choice) but he always has the best interest of the US first and foremost. If it wasn't for the virus, things would be going pretty well right about now.

People need to look a little more deeply into what os really going on.

Well you’re saying two things. One that he puts US first but also his stance aligns with yours. That’s not necessarily the same thing given that the majority of Americans didn’t vote for him or approve of his job.

But yes there’s holding him accountable for bad decisions and question him, and then there’s the hyper partisan of just bashing anything he does.

North Korea is the best example of hyper partisans on both sides.

Obama said he would be open to talks with North Korea and conservatives and Fox pundits ripped him apart while Dems supported it.
Trump reaches out to North Korea and the same conservatives and pundits praise him for it and Dems bash him.

This is what the two corrupt parties count on. They can lead us to divisive battles over trivial stuff while they work to self interested projects and profits.

Pretty much. Of course they won't escape the global recession. Taiwan also never sheltered but they did do a lot of testing, and then the positives were sent home and asked to avoid outside contact and avoided slamming their health care with every positive case.

It was probably spreading prior to the worldwide lockdowns back when most people, regardless of politics, were downplaying it and going on with there lives. It didn't get enough attention until Italy got REALLY bad. Inniitially people were like "hey, look, Italy might not be able to compete in F1 this season," completely oblivious to the reality that it was coming.

Now of course, everyone's an expert in hindsight.

People are under the impression that you have to shut down to battle this. That's false. In America in mid march we had to shut down but that was on the heels of 2 months of ineptitude. By mid march we had no choice but to hit the big red button and shut everything down.

But if officials can actually start using their brain little, we can figure out how to safely move forward. Given America's eternal partisan battle, I doubt this happens.

No, there were plenty experts who easily predicted all of this back in january.

Science isnt the limiting factor here. We have the knowledge and the resources to deal with this epidemic. The clear limiting factor is our leadership. Our leadership does not understand science. Until this changes, this virus is going to be a constant lingering problem.

Very admirable but you have to take into account several of the things they did, our people would not stand for.

The countries dynamics come into play. If their people are told to do something, they do it. We can't get people off the beach.nThey get lists from churches and cell phone surveillance. Good luck trying that here.

They also had a concerted effort to come up with a system after MERS. We never had to go thru that.n I'll bet we're better prepared next time.

Two different cultures. Two different dynamics.

Yea well the the gold standard of Germany didn't start social distancing until late March.

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, when Trump announced travel restrictions on January 31st he was met with accusations of xenophobia by the "party of science".
