Won’t fix anything. The party will just keep churning out new McConnell’s. We need more parties.
I agree with this. Thee are many of us that don't fit in either major party. I, for one, am relatively conservative on some issues and progressive on others. I do not vote for anyone just because they belong to a particular party. I vote for people that I think will do the job properly. I would have voted for Pete had he been the Democratic nominee, but I could not hold my nose and vote for Biden. I did not like Trump and did not vote for him either time.
Term limits would keep people like McConnell, Pelosi and their ilk from becoming intrenched in their offices so they didn't feel the need to do actually do what they were elected for anymore.
It would cause them to move around. I’m in the house for a decade. I’m in the senate. I’m a lobbyist. I’m back in the senate. At least with McConnell and Pelosi we know who they are and should be able to avoid them except we don’t really have options to vote them out at the primary level. Plus term limits would just incentivize them to actively work on that lobbying job while they’re still representing us. At least if they can run again they should be incentivized to work on our behalf so they can be re-elected.
Two huge problems with what has happened in very recent years is this:
1. The fact that The United States does not have a election system that is tamper-proof. Now I know that the great majority of people on this site do not want to admit that and I do not want to re-argue it again against 90% of the people here. Its a huge waste of my time.
2. This last four years has exposed the fact that the intelligence agencies in this country are not accountable to the POTUS, Congress, or the Supreme Court. The FBI, the CIA, and the entire Justice Department are a separate entity unto itself and does basically whatever it wants to do.
If there is one thing that all Americans should be very scared of, is the fact that there are bullet proof people in high places of government or behind that government that don't answer to anyone in our government. They can spy on anyone that they want. They can trap anyone that they want to. They can act without being held accountable. And they have lifetime jobs in any administration.
I always thought that Trump would clear out these skunks once he found out the extent of the corruption and power that they had but for some reason he didn't or couldn't. Wonder why? Who are these powerful rats in Washington DC anyway? And what if anything can be done to ferret them out and apply a massive dose of DECON to them?
Ending donor's influences over these clowns would do a better job of ensuring better representation. We watch during the first stimulus bill how they made sure a good chunk of that money when to their donors, some who were making major bank from the pandemic, and the hold up the present bill because Mitch was seeking to protect them, like the meatpacking industry, from civil suits over not protecting their employees from being inflected by this virus. This is deplorable since news broke that one meatpacking boss had a pool on how many of their workers will get sick. Basically, holding the public welfare hostage to ensure their donors are protected from prosecution for their malfeasances.
Any new party will be corrupted down the road because the present rules for political donation will still be in place.
I hope everyone who lives in Wisconsin remembers that Ron Johnson just blocked a $1200 payment to everyone due to COVID. Please spread the word if you know anyone who lives in and might not vote in that state.
How many people really follow congressional votes and hearings?
It's really the only detail that matters. People are unable to work due to COVID due to you know...a global contagious pandemic. And thanks to Ron Johnson, people won't even be able to get $2400 of help over a 9 month stretch. That's a pathetic amount of assistance even if that went through. But thanks to him, people will still just get $1200.
Maybe we can get Republicans to think of this like a tax cut. What if we cut everyone's taxes by the appropriate amount to give them an extra $1200 in April...but give it to them today?Because that's the dirty little secret about tax cuts, they're really just government spending. In practice, you're just having the government spend that money in April.
lol. His entire approach to trying to steal the election should show what a truly corrupt guy he is. He thought since he appointed judges they would rule in his favor. He EXPECTED that from the govt. That shows how ingrained and normal corruption is to him.
