COVID-19 Response: An issue that shouldn't be at all political....yet here we are

Even without NYC, the entire state of New York, and the entire states of New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Louisiana have confirmed death rates from Covid-19 that are significantly higher than (the first four) or equal to (the latter pair) the rates reported in such places as Spain, Italy, France or Britain.

And here’s something for us (and others) to ponder later on when we look back: The US as a whole — and so far almost half (22) of the states in the US — has a much higher death rate than the entire country of Germany. Let’s hope we can learn from that.

Very interesting. I’ll check that out. I’m behind on Frontline. Just finished the one on Amazon which was fascinating. Started the Hong Kong protestors one which was really interesting but then I faded out halfway through.

I wonder about the density differences. Do we pack people tighter?

Also culturally I think we have larger interaction group sizes.

It will be interesting to see what the stats end up being when we are finally past it. Particularly want to see what happens with Sweden and Taiwan at the end as neither country ever did shelter-in-place.

By the way, I was walking down the street one day and literally hundreds of naked people took over the street, they put trash cans in the street and wouldn't leave and completely jammed up traffic. They were protesting the police arresting naked people and they eventually got the law changed to make being naked in public a citation rather than a misdemeanor. They did it by jury nullification by the way. It was a dumb protest, but I didn't mock them or deride them for their decision. Their passion was evident and that's worth a lot. Political passion is rare enough we don't want to squash it.

Well, I was responding to the notion that the US problem is just in a few cities. As I have been posting all along, the entire Northeast is far worse off than those European countries — which, by the way, are plenty densely populated themselves.

I think the assessment looking back —when and if it comes, and if it is truthful — will he fascinating.

Lots of stories like that in other countries where they are debating reporting. I think it was Spain that had a debate if it made sense to test the dead to see if they should be included or not, to China who supposedly are recording the specific cause of death rather than the things leading up to the death, like recording it as respiratory failure or cardiac arrest because those things can be caused by Corona. There is a spectrum.
