Oregon lost the 2011 National Championship to Auburn in part because our coach, Chip Kelly elected for go for a TD in the 3rd quarter on 4th and goal rather than kick a FG. We ended up losing 19-22, and my friends were saying all he had to do was not be aggressive there and kick a FG and we may have won.

And I said it’s not that simple. His personality is to be aggressive, it’s what made him a good coach and got us this far. If he didn’t go for it there it would be a fundamental alteration of his personality to the point where he wouldn’t have taken half the aggressive chances he did and we’d likely have never even made it to the Championship Game.


All that is to say, yes if Trump had handled Covid better he likely would have won. But his personality was such, he was never going to. And if he did, it would be such a fundamental alteration of his character he wouldn’t be who he is (to the point where, who knows, he may have even been someone I voted for). Point is: while what you say is true, because of who Trump is, that was never going to happen.
