I don't actually recall ever saying that phrase but maybe I did, as you are a much more reliable source of intel than Brewers.
I was talking about in the context of throwing money at something. FDR personally crusaded for a polio vaccine because it was something he was afflicted with and it was a disease that was overlooked. There was significant motivation to develop a coronavirus vaccine not just because of the human toll but the toll it was taking on world economics. The real work comes from the people developing the vaccine though. This idea that Trump had some unique strategy that made an expedited vaccine possible is a Trump fan talking point. Its another way to prop up his presidency meanwhile he had very little to do with the vaccine and its actualization.

Trump administration political appointees tried to block or change more than a dozen government reports that detailed scientific findings about the spread of the coronavirus, a House panel investigating the alleged interference said Monday.
Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., said his coronavirus subcommittee investigators have found evidence of a “political pressure campaign” to “bully” professionals at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in what may have been an attempt to “cripple the nation's coronavirus response in a misguided effort to achieve herd immunity.”
The more evidence that comes out, the more apparent it becomes that the Administration ran a covert plan to attempt to get the US herd immunity.
Bi-partisanship has prevailed and led to the passing of another deeply flawed “relief” bill.
The $900 billion stimulus bill that Congress passed last night is flawed because it is not especially targeted at the parts of the economy that most need help.
For example, a central part of the stimulus is another one-time check for at least $1200 for virtually any household with income below $150,000. As a result, much of that money will go to Americans who are doing just fine and who will save the money they receive, which in turn will do nothing to keep struggling businesses afloat or keep workers employed.
At the same time, the bill provides only 11 weeks of expanded unemployment insurance. In all, the bill spends less on the expanded jobless benefits than on the stimulus checks.
Even more flawed is the lack of help for state and local governments. Of course, Mitch McConnell insisted on excluding such aid, saying it would be a bailout for fiscally irresponsible states. Many economists disagree and point to the pandemic’s toll on state budgets, which now without assistance will likely lead to cuts that state and local government will have to make: public transportation, police and fire departments, schools and health care programs.
Three cheers for compromise.
Seems like everyone hates this bill. Everyone should hate things a lot more. But as a country I think too many have accepted the bleak reality of American politics. Just an absolutely broken system full of self-serving old-as-dirt millionaire corporatists who could make up a believable story about what the average struggling American goes through if they tried. A country where everyone believes that our government isn't here to do good for its people. A two-party system full of self-serving corporatist ghouls on both sides. The liberal party being led by war mongering robber barone who also, in the midst of a pandemic, still think universal healthcare isn't worth fighting for.
But this is how it's supposed to be. This is Neoliberal capitalism working how it should. The system doesn't work for those at the top if there aren't so many people do desperate to make money. Nancy wants everyone to be grateful for the $600. She thinks it will help. It's the best she could do. She honestly makes my skin crawl.
But yeah...this bill and all the crap in it at the expense of helping struggling Americans sums up America better than just about anything else could. What a broken system. Holy ****.
America ain't ****. Even you smooth brain right wing "Patriots" gotta acknowledge it now.
Employers will no longer have to provide mandatory paid time off to workers who are infected with COVID. This the season to punch Mitch McConnell in the face.
America will cave into the deception by eventually saying, “Well, it’s better than nothing,” and thereby playing directly into the hands of the professionals, who continue to do only the bare minimum to keep the masses subdued (and deluded).
It isn’t better than nothing. Doing nothing would at least signal transparency about the neoliberal agenda.
Ah, but it would foment modest discontent and potentially threaten the power of the professionals.
I agree with Ilhan Omar.

And they know we’re so easily distracted by partisan politics, so they can do whatever they want. They count on us never rising up. Democracy is dead.
Rising up? Hell, no. We’re not even going to rise up from our laissez-faire barcaloungers to vote them out of office, mail-in ballots or not. Too much effort. Screw it.
The system sucks. I mean, it has always sucked, for sure, but it sucks even more in this century.
Hold on. I need to go check my portfolio.
Here’s a democrats suck article to counter Special agrees with Omar post.
