All we saw in Dec was shrouded bodies being dumped in trucks or left in hallways in hospitals. We all thought this was just going to stay in China. Well the real problem was people coming back to the US.

Thank god Trump put out that hated travel ban on Jan 31. Just imagine if a damn Democrat was President? No travel ban til mid to late Feb would have been my guess and only after cases going through the roof would be the only thing to get their reaction to it and put out that much needed travel ban.

Again, crush Trump all you want for him trying to not get people to go into a major panic. Deep down he knew it was real. I think Initially he thought a few cases would come and scatter through the nation and once he started to listen to Dr Fauci he changed his tune. But he will be a hero once this passes and will get 4 more years because of this outbreak IMO.

FWIW: For the first time since the crisis began, China today reported no new local infections for the previous 24 hours. Experts have said at least 14 straight days without new infections are needed for the outbreak to be considered over.

■ New C.D.C. data showed that nearly 40 percent of hospitalized patients in the U.S. were aged 20 to 54. But the risk of dying was significantly higher in older people.

■ As school systems shut across the U.S., administrators are pleading for guidance from the federal government.

■ The virus has now infected and killed more people in Europe — over 82,000 cases and more than 3,400 dead — than it has in China. “This is serious,” Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany said in a televised address on Wednesday. “Take it seriously.” NYT

Hey Klown did you see Trump enacted that law from WW2 that allows for factories to work on crucial things we. The first one he setup was to make all the things first responders , DR's . nurse ect will make sure all the crucial gear and suppliers to keep them as safe and healthy as possible . good call on your part

I did see that. It is a very smart choice and I applaud him doing it.
Look. I don't love Trump. I don't hate him but I hope he rises to the occasion. He has done some really good things.
Giving governors the ability to get stuff done without asking him, was huge. They may have different routes to acquire equipment and rather than wait to get the ok from the Fed Gov, he green lighted them.
Sending the ship to NYC is huge.

Doc, to put that number into clearer perspective, there is roughly 20% of cases that need to be hospitalized.

So that 40% is out of that 20%. So 10% of the cases result in people of that age group in the hospital

I would think with WHO and other international agencies involved, China is less likely to offer "alternative facts." But I am not denying it's possible. As I prefaced, FWIW.

I am not sure. I see the conflict. What I read:
Twenty cases were treated in this study and showed a significant reduction of the viral
carriage at D6-post inclusion compared to controls, and much lower average carrying duration
than reported of untreated patients in the literature. Azithromycin added to
hydroxychloroquine was significantly more efficient for virus elimination.

The primary endpoint was virological clearance at day-6 post-inclusion. Secondary outcomes
were virological clearance overtime during the study period, clinical follow-up (body
temperature, respiratory rate, long of stay at hospital and mortality), and occurrence of side-effects.

When comparing the effect of hydroxychloroquine treatment as a single drug and the effect of
hydroxychloroquine and azithromyc in combination, the proportion of patients that had
negative PCR results in nasopharyngeal samples was significantly different between the two
groups at days 3-4-5 and 6 post-inclusion (Table 3). At day6 post-inclusion, 100% of patients
treated with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin combination were virologicaly cured
comparing with 57.1% in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine only, and 12.5% in the
control group (p<0.001). These results are summarized in Figures 1 and 2. Drug effect was
significantly higher in patients with symptoms of URTI and LRTI, as compared to
asymptomatic patients with p<0.05.
