If that saves tens of thousands of lives so be it. Again there are ways to fund small/big businesses, aid American citizens, etc in the interim. They'll be over a million in quite a short period of time and if you end these shelter place orders/reopen the country too soon, we'll be right back here again closing states down because of coronavirus casualties.
You don't get it. The only way to slow this down until there is some kind of vaccine or treatment is a lockdown similar to South Korea and China (when the news became public).
No chance they might be trying to sweep it under the rug to protect and save Trump's azz? Nah..no chance.
How about the word of the former acting undersecretary of DHS?
ABC News contributor John Cohen, who used to oversee intelligence operations at the Department of Homeland Security, said even the best information would be of no use if officials do not act on it.
"When responding to a public health crisis or any other serious security threat, it is critical that our leaders react quickly and take steps to address the threat identified in the intelligence reporting," said Cohen, the former acting undersecretary of DHS. "It’s not surprising to me that the intelligence community detected the outbreak; what is surprising and disappointing is that the White House ignored the clear warning signs, failed to follow established pandemic response protocols and were slow to put in place a government-wide effort to respond to this crisis."

How about holding this idiot accountable for once? Is that possible? Is your partisanship blinded by complete ignorance?
I guess its okay to you that our president lies, puts out misinformation, and tries to rewrite history on how this was handled while only taking accountability for things that go right and suggesting anything that goes wrong is someone else's fault.
I didn't say a year. Can the American economy survive this into late May or June though? Yeah with the right legislation.
China had a huge head start. Their infection rates have dropped significantly through people staying at home. New York has more confirmed cases than China. Do you understand that? Even if you don't believe China's numbers (I don't either), New York is a state with 19 million people while China is a country of 1.4 billion people.
That's a ridiculous rate of contraction for an area exponentially smaller than the entirety of China.
Huge head start?! They spent the first 3 months of Their pandemic covering it up and making the medical professionals who disagreed with the govt disappear . We will never know the true impact the virus has on their country and yet you are saying their reaction was much better than the US .
Where? Find me the post where I said that. I'll wait.
Newsflash you're going to be here a while because i never said that. The idea of being closed for another month to 6 weeks is to drive the number of cases down which limits potential exposure on a larger scale. Lesser cases means lesser infected people in the future. With that comes the need for patience which will lead to further flattening of the curve.
That's all people have tried to tell you through the entirety of this thread but its something you obviously don't understand.
China started their lockdown in January. I would call that a considerable head start. I'm not arguing the handling of the disease and the numbers are obviously fabricated. That said, the reason why they've been able to open cities like Wuhan again (which has a population of 11 million people) is because they've done a better job of limiting the spread.
That's obvious by the amount of new cases in the US today (29,000) meanwhile China's largest day of new cases peaked in February.
I'm aware that misinformation comes from China. You don't have to tell me that but their citizens have done a better job of handling this than Americans have.
