That comes from the settlement money that's on the side of defense. So the city isn't paying extra on top of it to the defense.

They will require X(%) amount of money

From the prosecution side(even if it's a settlement) the lawyers are paid X amount of money. Since it's probably an ADA handling the case, it's costing the city part of their hourly cost(x an hour) or salary to handle the case, they were on the clock anyway so they're getting paid X amount of money regardless if they handle the case or not)

So you're both incorrect.

The attorneys fee comes out of the settlement to the plaintiff.

The city has staff attorneys or likely a firm on retainer.

I mixed up the prosecution and defense, my bad.

In this case, the city is defense, since it's against the city. The city has its own layers that it pays X amount of money per year. So it shouldn't cost the city any extra money for settlements on top of what they already pay the DA office layers.

I'm aware the client pays their own attorney's fee. They get a % of whatever the settlement is.

I'm assuming when they say 230 million dollars, that's the money the city has paid plaintiffs (only) in settling those cases.

No its a fact. If you continue going trolling, you'll be handed out infractions where the points system automatically bans you. 2 infractions leads to a 3 day ban, 3 infractions a week ban and so on.
