I fully disagree on the logical progression of Nirvana being the Foo Fighters. Foo Fighters are super stale, safe, and predictable. Whether Cobain went solo or continued on with Nirvana, I think his contributions to music would be much more interesting and challenging.Quote:

I think the only reason the kinks didn't erupt the way the Beatles and stones did is because they were a garage sound. They were all amazing musicians but they were a bit simpler in structure. There are exceptions of course. They have songs that have a different complexity but it wasn't their norm.
The other name I can't believe I forgot is my go to, Nick Cave.
He has perhaps the funniest, most twisted but descriptive song lyric I've ever hear.
In his version of the old standard, "Stagger Lee". He paints a much darker and intense picture of the character as he shoots his way into a bar and is about to go to bed with a hooker and in explaining how nasty he is
"I'm a bad mother ****er don't you know. I'd crawl over 50 good ******* just to get to one fat boys azzhole"

I saw digable planets live in New Orleans at Tipatinas in the early 90s. They rolled with a full band and the samples were live. It was fantastic. Ladybug was super hot.
Grohl is a pretty good songwriter but I wouldn't give him credit for anything other than the drums on any Nirvana songs outside of Scentless Apprentice (he wrote the main riff on guitar) and Marigold (which he wrote, sang, and played guitar on). He definitely had no writing credits on Heart-Shaped Box. Everlong is a killer song though.Quote:

The first Foo Fighters album sounded too much like Nirvana. I get it that is all Dave Grohl knew at that time. I don’t think Cobain keeps the same 90s sound if he was still making music in 2020.Quote:

I think around 2000 Cobain would have changed their sound a little much like the Beatles did with and after the Revolver album. And by 2020? Still grunge aspects but I think much different than in the 90s. Cobain hated the same type of music........
Cobain also disliked Pearl Jam...and couldn’t stand Stone Temple Pilots.
I read a lot of books about him in the late 90s.....he was guy who had a great vision but heroin got in the way.

The first two Foo albums were the only ones I cared much for. Very cool thing about the first Foo album is that Grohl played every instrument himself on it. Mad Season you mean? Yeah, that's a very solid album that I kinda forgot about and then re-discovered maybe 10-12 years ago when my girlfriend at the time was obsessed with the song Long Gone Day. Lanegan wasn't part of the band but he did contribute some guest vocals, including on Long Gone Day.
I def have at least one of those Gutter Twins albums.

Long Gone Days is one of my favorite songs. I love how they split it and you get to hear both sing but that chorus has Staley's creepy high range along with Lannegan's low gravel.
