Cuomo extended the stay at home order for New York residents not in the reopened zones to June 13th. Long Island and Westchester meet 5 of the 7 criteria to reopen meanwhile NYC only meets 4.

Not surprising. None of us thought there was any chance they were reopening the city, LI and Westchester before June. Although, I don't understand opening beaches for Memorial Day weekend. The crowds that's going to draw are going to be insane. Consistency is just not there sometimes. I understand its a holiday weekend, the unofficial start to summer but people can sacrifice until the 4th of July before celebrating a holiday.

US retail sales fell more than 16% in April. If the government thinks they can get away with not intervening with more aid, they are fooling themselves. You're going to see significant revenue issues for most businesses from now till the end of the year even when stores are reopening or in the process of doing so. The fact is people don't have the disposable income and they're not going to be running to buy things when there is a still a virus out there claiming nearly 2000 lives a day.

Not that it's right but, People are going to the beaches anyway. The beaches by me have people on them. Just going around the barriers. When they open beaches will be allowed a 50% capacity and social distancing must take place. I think at this point in the decline it is fine to open the beaches as long as people practice social distancing. You can't keep everything closed forever. It's not just NYS doing it. All the of the north east with beaches including NY, DE.. Etc are doing it.

Also, the stay at home order is currently in effect until May 28th. But any other region metting all 7 requirements can open sooner. Cuomo himself said stay at home order extended to May 28th. It seems like he's doing it two weeks at a time for now. I believe someone made an error by saying it was June, but that's since been corrected.

Yeah I understand beach capacity may be regulated. I wonder how much because police seem to be selectively enforcing things. You're right though. Its going to happen. Its just a matter of how responsible people are and if social distancing is adhered to.

Cuomo said beaches will close immediately if people don't follow the guidelines set in place. So, I hope people can follow guidelines. Having the beaches open would be a breath of fresh air for a state that's been partially closed since March about 8 weeks ago.
