The worst thing in all this is human panic, everyone is buying extra pounds of food and antiseptics and if you don’t put on a mask they look at you like an eccentric.

The premier of Ontario just announced a state of emergency this morning. Today has been the first day where I've seen a significant change in day to day life here in Toronto. I went for a morning run then grabbed a coffee at McDonalds. There's basically 0 foot traffic on the sidewalks and not nearly as many cars as I'm used to seeing on the busy streets.
About 4800 cases now. 94 dead, 74 recovered. Yesterday we had 938 cases, 18 deaths. Both were highs for our country, both significantly higher then the next closest day. We are on an Strickingly similar path as Italy and everyday we waste, could make it even worse.

Just refreshed the page, it’s 5243 cases now. Had a dump of almost 500 cases!

The increase in cases is absolutely expected. There are some good videos on youtube explaining the exponential rise in cases until the plateau point is reached.
Just got this email today through American Medical Association
"The*New York Times*(3/16, Carey) reports a*studypublished in Science suggests that “for every confirmed case, there are most likely another five to 10 people in the community with undetected infections.” In the study, “researchers modeled the virus’s natural spread in China before the government instituted a travel ban and an aggressive testing policy. During that time, from December of last year through late January, about 6 in 7 cases went undetected. That situation is analogous to the current state of affairs in the United States and other Western countries, where tests are not widely available, the researchers said.”

100 deaths out of 30,000 cases (the low estimate of 5 unknown cases for every confirmed case), or 100 deaths out of 60,000 cases (the high estimate of 10 unknown cases for every confirmed case)
Mortality rate based on those projections would be .333% - .167% (which I want to reiterate are really difficult to gauge and it may actually be 4 unknown cases per known case, or even higher than the 10 point mark --- more data will make those values stronger and more likely)

This has just closed my business. Here’s hoping I’m not totally &$?@!
Damn, what's your business. Is govt gonna give you any relief?
Bro I'm on the heels of 6 months of work and deep 5 figure investment into door to door sales team + installation team + 0 down financing locked in from 2 diff sources..last week our ducks finally lined up after 6 months of creating entities, acquiring licensing, get processed for financing. Last week we meant to push play, things got delayed from our sales leads end, and now this started.
I'm taking a crushing hit right now

Lots of stores around the country offering specific hours for elderly to shop for their protection. Lots of people stepping up and acting responsibly. Most people Im talking to are willing to do whatever the govt says for the sake of elder and high risk individuals
If only we could somehow swap out these politicians for these grocery store managers..

All of our Bay Area projects are shutdown except one which has a waiver from the county but the city shut them down today. Have work for employees, can get deliveries from bay area for 3+ weeks, sourcing LA and SAC. No restrictions in our county other than groups over 1000. Have a medical project that they are looking for a waiver on and a biotech company asking for a waiver based on necessity.
All office employees are setup to work from home if we get the notice.
Manufacturing employees we will try and stagger and keep everyone apart (they all work 20-30 feet apart) so just keep separated at breaks.
Watch out and run if you see this on the street; I don't get why its so hard to detect, it looks the size of a basketball.

Buddy who’s a funeral director shared that the CDC said to expect up to a 10x increase in case load in 2020 due to COVID-19 if people don’t change behaviors to introduce social distancing.
For context, about 2.8 million people die every year.
Let’s ****ing hope that that doesn’t happen.
That is a bonkers projection.
You do realize that the over would be a number greater than 25.2 million (if my math is right aka 28 million minus 2.8 million), no? Even when I've heard projections of 3 million deaths due to the coronavirus, I thought it sounded way too pessimistic.
Maybe I'm nuts but I'm thinking that the total death tally won't top a quarter million.
Having said that, it looks like there have been almost a thousand new deaths in the last 36ish hours.
For ****'s sake people it isn't that goddamn serious. If you are elderly or have a compromised immune system, you're at a much higher risk just the same as you would be with any respiratory flu. If you're healthy and exercise basic precautions, you'll be fine. This whole thing has gone way beyond ridiculous at this point.
I'd say it is pretty damn serious whether there are 20,000 deaths or 1,000,000 deaths. I prefer people take this too seriously than not seriously enough. A middle ground would be more ideal but yeah, this **** ain't no joke.
It's not necessarily a pressing issue at the moment, but if we keep moving forward with no crowd mitigation then it will become a very real and pressing issue very fast.
Either slow down for 3 weeks now or slow down for 3 months later. We already acted too late and instead of dealing with this for $20 billion it's now gonna cost us upwards of a trillion because this govt reacted too slow.
Better to implement crowd control now than later

imagine if you sat back and thought about the elderly and then thought about the other diseases with vaccines like the flu that and understood this virus spreads much much faster and how this virus plus the flu and so many other diseases could overwhelm and flat out destroy our hospitals/health care system and so on down the list.... This diseases is much more worse then the flu and it doesnt even have a vaccine nor do we know if it will/can mutate/become antibiotic resistant once we have some type of antibiotic and so on.... You are ignoring the entire picture and just looking at the disease... even now because humanity is ****ing moronic we cant keep people inside just so we can get rid of the disease because people think its no big deal because they arent old and unhealthy.... the selfishness and disgusting carelessness of this idiotic and down right ignorant logic from the people of the united states is why people in general suck.
