what I said isn't about whatever the other conversation was. I didn't even read much of what was being said. I only saw you say something about a poll, and my reply to that is just pointing out that polls right now are meaningless.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doesn't want ICE notified when people already breaking the law buy a gun.
Nearly 50% of her district are Hispanics and the majority are immigrants. She knows exactly what she is doing: protecting her elected seat and catering to their demands. The moment she switches her position, guess what? She won't have a chance at winning. With social media, it's easier now than ever to win a House seat. Just start pushing the narratives that you see people are most vocal about in social media and then run a campaign based off that. It's so easy to collect that data if you have the funds to do so. Sadly, I live in her district and I can tell you, the majority of people here are very liberal and if you were to ever question the incompetence of some liberal policies, you would be looked at very differently. Republicans and others hope AOC will lose her seat in the next election. Wrong. As long as she continues pushing the narratives she has maintained, she will win. It's a winning position for her regardless of how stupid it may sound. In a video of her being a guest on I believe Colbert's show, she said that someone voted for her and she asked for her age. "I'm 19." Yeah.. The average 19 year old isn't researching topics based on economics, policies, and conflict. We were all 19 before and I am willing to bet many of us know way less than we do now.
I know you are still disappointed that your property values are now not likely to go up (seriously, I get it), and that your Congresswoman does not reflect your views —it happens — but Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is no innovator. While social media might make it easier, politicians have been targeting groups and molding themselves accordingly for many, many years.
Young people get to vote (so do old people). She’d be an idiot not to cater to the young. It’s good politics. In other words, she’s no dummy.
He said the bill has more support than just AOC and gave an example.
"The best part of all this whining is that there are many other supporters of the Green New Deal (as were there many other people of influence who questioned, even opposed Amazon’s NY gambit) and yet you’d think that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is the entire thng."
You laughed him off and I gave even more examples with actual data then you just ignored it as well. I have already shown multiple links with data on individual ideas/policies and shown the independent split (more against but it was like mid 30's to mid 40's for/against). Considering you are just talking democrats this is from the same IBD report as the independents support given:
The numbers tell the story. Among Republicans, 77% said they'd be less likely to vote for a Green New Deal supporter. Just 3% said it would make them more likely to vote for the candidate. Meanwhile, 56% of Democrats said they'd be more likely to vote for a GND supporter, versus just 7% who said they wouldn't. Among independents, who now make up more than a third of the electorate, 41% said they would be less likely to vote for a Green New Deal candidate, versus 35% that said they'd be more likely.
So again it has more support than just her, plenty within the party and even independents are a bit split but plenty say being for it makes them more likely to vote for a candidate just like it makes many more likely to be against one (partisan split aka dems do support, republicans don't). That doesn't mean this is something with overwhelming support by all that is going to pass, again he was just saying "there are so many other supporters of the new green deal and yet you'd think AOC is the entire thing". You just can't allow yourself to admit there are other supporters for some weird reason to keep attacking AOC, doing exactly what he is calling out lol. Harris, Booker, Warren, Gillibrand, and Sanders have signed on of presidential hopefuls from what I have seen as well.
This is being backed by presidential candidates, with some mixed support from independents in polls, with support from dems in polls, with many individual policies or general ideas within having huge support and all that was really said is that it isn't just AOC and you laughed him off without reason and continually ignoring evidence provided.
Of course you didn't care about the context, that's the entire issue with yours/fingerbang/dbroncs posts is continually being ignorant of all context in order to just push agendas/play team games.
A poll is a measurement tool to gauge how many people are for/against ideas/peaople etc. When someone is saying something doesn't have any support and you can show it does with a poll/people supporting it then in that context it would matter...
polling people that are stupid just like she is, is meaningless.
a poll is only as good as who is being polled. I could poll thousands of Trump supporters on whether Trump should get funding for the wall, and I'm sure you can imagine what the results would be.
too many people (on both sides) have been manipulated by media/social media on what to think and any poll is going to be reflective of that.
AOC said that when she goes to the grocery store, she gets the plastic grocery bags and has to throw them away because the recycling program isn't available for it. "And that's okay." Does AOC not realize that she doesn't have to take the plastic bags? When I go grocery shopping, I always remember to bring a reuseable tote bag. Did she not know she can do that? Her continuing to accept those plastic bags is why they even continue giving them away.
AOC wants only electric vehicles out by 2030. Good idea. Explain to me how she plans on installing an electric supercharger in NYC. Anyone who lives in NYC knows that most people parking their cars are street parking and that most electric vehicles are charged in a garage. Unless she wants people to install an electric charger in their 1000 sq foot home, she has no clue how much this will cost everyone. Or, maybe she wants to install an electric car charger every 20 feet of the sidewalk. Good idea, AOC. I'm sure you thought that one out.. y'know, since you lived in NYC and surely would have known this is a problem.
A reporter asked AOC why she took a plane instead of a train to her destination... Her response? "Because I needed to go to work." When asked why she didn't take the train instead once more, she replied, "Because it would have taken hours of my constituents time." Did she just prove that the reason people took planes is due to the time constraint when taking a train? Yet, this is the same revolutionary figure who said, "We need to be the change we want to see", when referring to her Green New Deal proposal. But it gets even funnier.. Why? Because she was going from D.C. to NYC.. meaning, she wouldn't have saved much time taking the train over a plane. A train ride between these two is 3 hours. A plane ride is 1 hour. Consider you have to go through airport security and all those lovely protocols in flight travel, realistically, she probably only shaves a few minutes by taking the plane.
A year ago, a small Target store with affordable housing units (those making below $44,000) was up for proposal in her district.. She said no because apparently, doesn't know that for housing developers to mitigate costs, they would have to have a certain amount (I believe 20% of units) as affordable units.. Not the problem here but she said that this Target would have no affordable units and that people wouldn't be able to afford them. Here is the funny part: In her Washington D.C. apartment unit, it is luxury and DOES NOT have any affordable units. The least expensive unit in that apartment unit is 440 sq ft for $2,000. The average price is $2,700 for a unit. So why is AOC so concerned about affordable units but when she moves into Washington D.C. with her $200k salary, she has no problem staying in a luxury condo without any affordable units?
So far, AOC has proven one of many things: She says what she wants but doesn't preach it. Wants electric cars but rides a gas vehicle. Wants trains>planes but takes a plane to save a few minutes of her "constituents" time. Says there should be more affordable units but lives in a luxury condo unit. Says no plastic but uses plastic. Hundreds of districts she could have been in but she is in the 14th district. Amazing.
ignore mgnopher35. He's someone who would go to prison and make a poll about: "Do you think people who belong in prison should be in prison?" and then take that as credible polling. Don't worry about him. Lots of educated people in the world so you don't have to associate yourselves with ignorant people.
Is this where we're at? Criticizing AOC because she uses plastic bags at the store?
