You misunderstand, Gabbard’s stances are moderate, but she has a large following among conservatives who want to act moderate so they talk about the one Democrat they like, who is Gabbard. This is not me saying this by the way, this is well established:

She is the John Kasoch of Democrats (in that I noticed a lot of Democrats talk about how they liked Kasich among Republicans in 2016).


This has nothing to do with me being cocky or thinking a moderate would “turn their nose” up at Liberals. Again, there’s a difference between that and literally hating Liberals. Flea hates Liberals with a burning passion.

I asked you what Liberal views he genuinely supports and it’s telling you had no answer: because the answer is none (or some ancillary thing like pot).

What about his actual views gives you the impression Flea is in any way a moderate?

Actually, I only said God and pro-life were pretty big items, not that that's all I know about the Republican party. But I haven't the time or energy to be listing out other aspects that kept me a Republican all these years just so people here can pick at it. You're right that I've been fighting politics here for months...I've just not viewed it as fighting given this is an internet forum, not an in-person conversation.

I came to this forum originally simply because the rest of the forum was quiet and I was interested in discussions revolving around the pandemic and the unrest. I'd planned to scale back for weeks, but discussion in the religion forum kept me coming back.

I'm a social guy, and I've not been able to be as social these past months. I left a job with 100 people in the building to go to work at a job with 10, and did so around March 1. So another part of my reason to be here has simply been to have fun interacting, even tho it's with people I will likely never know. I enjoy just trying to get a handle on different personalities. My own sports site has forums, but they've been extremely quiet for a long time now, in part because while I still believe in the concept (my game is a stock market simulation vs typical fantasy sports) I haven't nailed down investors to take it where I think it could go.

So, think what you will. I view myself as an old school Republican who doesn't recognize my own party anymore.

Actually Trump made me a Democrat. I haven’t voted since Gore/Bush. For a non voter I observed the news and I leaned left but only excerised personal politics in the way I tried to treat people and community projects I volunteered for. I’ve thought good Republican was better then a bad Dem. I thought Romany and Obama were both very competent corporate candidates and definitely think if it was Mitt vs Biden Mitt would of been my choice. I don’t think Trump has any conviction or believes other then promoting Trump.

men too. but again the issue is this photoshoot in connection with the people that she pushes to help more.

Probably grounds for another thread, but much of the craziness derives from the fact that our political designations are contradictory and almost schizophrenic.

At its basis, the “left” is directed towards the idea government exists to promote and protect the social welfare, even to the point of the far left being socialism in its purest form.

The “right” on the other hand, is concerned more with individual liberties and the protection of property rights. Hence, idealizing small government and laissez faire economics.

The “right” already advocates gun rights, lower taxes, money in politics, and deregulation in general, but under this ideological rubric, so-called socially liberal initiatives like pro-abortion, legalization of drugs, gay marriage should be the province of the “right” (they are, I think, for libertarians) insofar as they are based on protecting the rights of the individual to her/his freely chosen actions.

And while higher taxes, environmental protection, and universal health care are currently championed by the “left,” other things such as an anti-abortion stance, law and order initiatives, homeland security, and corporate subsidies should by ideology be positions also espoused by the “left” because they allegedly promote the well-being of society as a whole.

As it stands, however, we have a complete mixed bag where, for example, the “right” ends up demanding freedom of choice for gun owners, but at the same time it demands that woman subjegate their bodies to the will of society. Likewise, the “left” presses for universal health care but advocates for reducing defense spending.

Maybe not the best examples, and there are good reasons for the contradictions, but it makes political dialogue all the more difficult.
