College isn't the right choice for everyone. This isn't a complicated thing to understand. Vocational training is a perfectly valid approach.

This is true. Just look at all the people with high school diploma that can’t find work. High school diploma’s are worthless. These kids could learn much more and be much more successful if they just quit in middle school. I knew this guy once that was super successful and he quit school in 7th grade. We need to stop sending kids to high school, it just devalues their diploma’s

I read recently that a good way to look at the Green New Deal is that it is a kind of manifesto for a renewed progressive movement in the US rather than a collection of bills that are to be legislated immediately.

In that light, it is the progressive counterpart to something like Newt Gingrich’s 1994 “Contract with America.”

Markey and Ocasio-Cortez are outlining a direction they believe that United States should be heading — a guidepost towards the future.

Whether we agree with that direction is of course the issue.

I disagree with some of the specifics, but the overall direction is one I support.

Yep. The ask needs to be pretty big in a negotiation. It’s a bit like asking for a 2000 mile 30ft. concrete wall in order to get 55 miles of fence.

There is some noise the other way too though. The fact that people who do go to college often had a career goal that requires the mentioned "certificate" doesn't mean they were more successful because of college, college was a requirement to do what they wanted to do.

Also, people who go to college tend to be wealthier than those that do not and money is a major factor in later success in life.

Also, people who go to college are more likely to have both parents in their lives than those that do not and having both parents in your life is a major factor in later success in life.

I am a big supporter of education being the best antidote to all of civilizations ills, but free college is a terrible idea.

We have way over-hyped college, and it really isn't returning reasonable value to a large percentage of people who go.

I’d like to see some data on people who are more/less successful doing jobs that require “certification” without that “certification.”

Then why have all the people who've entered the 2020 race signed on to it?

Is that why most of these tent polls have ****ing nothing to do with climate change?
Like Unionization, Medicare For all, Free College for all etc etc.

We KNOW when college is provided for, it creates more competition (flips or someone else even linked a quick deal on it). We KNOW the more educated people are, the better it helps all.

This **** pisses me off to no end. EVERY single wave of immigrants to this country... Came here... Was **** on by the majority, first generation buckled down, told the second generation to get as far into school as possible repeat, and thus that group was accepted. The Polish, the irish, the italians, the jews, and now that is being instilled in hispanic immigrants. Parents work assess off, get kids through school. It's like history never happened. Maybe history never happened for the uneducated. The same people who are complaining that people won't assimilate into the culture have forgotten how the culture works.
