Is that supportable? They have had kids missing families for a year? If that's true I wonder if the child recycling stuff is part of that story.

AOC now adding reparations to black people. What's another $3T.
I really think we need to be looking forward more than back, but what do I know, I'm an optimist (a rarity on this board it seems).
They didn't keep track of the which kids go with which parents untill everyone got pissed off. And they ran a pilot program for months before the official policy went into an effect in april of 18'. So yes there are still kids who aren't back with their folks cause we don't even know who they are. Keep in mind that this is such a cluster **** that they don't even know how many families they separated.
Here is a report from the AP on a filing from the trump admin in febuary... if you want it from the horse's mouth(quite literally)

Actually that number seems about right. Average cost of a slave in 1850 was 400. If we just have families back the cost of their ancestors with an interest of a meager 5%. On 400 for 150 years is 712,000. There were 3.2 million slaves. Multiply those numbers and you have 2.3 trillion dollars. I know this isn't going to happen but it's certainly reasonable (from a stand point of fairness.. not from a standpoint of of paying for it.)

My problem with reparations, other than paying for it, is that we're talking about paying as a nation for the actions of people of other countries and of ours, and it's something we liked so little we fought our deadliest war to get rid of it. Are the families who lost people fighting that war for the north going to get money for their loss? Also the idea that slavery set the current black people in the US behind is a tough sell for me. It's not PC I know, but if all of those people had been left in their native countries their children would likely be worse off not better. The biggest thing keeping black people down is laws put in place in the 1960s and after, not slavery. Are we going to send part of the $3T bill to the UK? To France? To Spain? Before our country existed they were the perpetrators on these lands.
There are a couple problems.
Well there is the we don't know who the parents are problem.
There is the they were told leave and go wait in line problem. These are parents who are probably now in mexico waiting to be let in to wait and be heard for asylum.
There are those folks who abandoned their kids.
And there are those folks who probably have reasonable asylum claims who have left their kids because the kids will have a better chance in a US detention facility than living in poverty in a place with the highest murder rate in the world.
This is some BS. You take your responsibility for things. I feel like that's an american value. (Dovetails nicely with the "he started it" ******** I teased in another thread). No it wasn't just us, but we were doing it long after those other folks stopped. Think about it this way. If you buy Rhino horn or a blood diamond... are you solely responsible for the death of a rhino of the squalor and war around the diamond industry... **** no. You are only a tiny part of that problem... But you are responsible for yourself. And what you did was ******. At the very least what you spent for that should be taken away from you. And we paid 400 dollars american money for a person. That's what we (as americans) paid.
Again I don't think it should be done... something should have been done 150 years ago to right that wrong... but at this point nothing seems terribly feasible.
A bit of history I bumped into that I found interesting while looking stuff up.

I hate the idea of the DNC adopting this call for reparations. This would be a great way to grab defeat from the jaws of victory by pressuring democratic presidential candidates into this. I actually think this topic alone could lose them the election.
You’d be once again pressuring working class white Americans into voting for the Republican Party. Just focus on policies that disproportionately affect minorities anyways that everyone can also benefit from instead of extremely divisive ones like reparations.
The poverty rates in Africa are not exactly great.
I can't remember the book at the moment, but I read a book by a black scholar many years ago who made the point that the subsequent generations of black slaves were much better off than had their ancestors been left where they were. The author was skewered for the position, but it was academically accepted IIRC. Black people in the US were screwed pretty heavily after slavery was abolished, but that's not reparations for slavery related.
Sure, and the state of Africa is not slavery related either. It is more related to colonization and the carving up the continent in such a manner to have the best interest of Europe in mind, which more often than not coincided with the worst interest of Africa in mind.
I'm not comparing them to Africans in Africa, I'm comparing them to Americans in America. Whenever I speak on this topic.
