She went to a fancy party in a dress given to her. Who cares? I doubt she knew what was required of the wait staff. You are the point I’m making.

I'm sure she was well aware of the requirements of the event. She's not a stupid woman and the event itself made it clear what the conditions were to attend. She went to a fancy party that costs 35 thousand dollars to attend (at minimum) in presumably a dress that cost 5 figures to make. As I said before by a designing firm that isn't even practicing the message she is preaching. This is a woman who made herself prominent in politics talking about how unfair the economic system is btw.
Again, you aren't making the point you think you are. You getting defensive over it illustrates my point pretty well though.
If someone gave you tickets to a show would turn them down bc they are expansive? What about clothes? And again I’m sure she knew what was required of guests. If you criticizing for going with those rules ok. That is not what most are being critical of and I am pretty confident she didn’t know what was required of staff.

If my principles were AOC's principles, yeah. I would turn down opulence that wasn't in line with my core values, especially things that are important to my most valued constituents. How do you think people in her district feel about her attending such expensive events when so many people in the Bronx live in NYCHA homes, need government benefits, and barely make ends meet? I'm criticizing her being there period. The lack of adherence to COVID rules and her affiliation with a rich designer who isn't paying taxes is just icing on the cake.
She likely thought she was being a rebel by wearing that dress to the Met. I wouldnt call it "hypocritical" more "tone def". If AOC wanted she could drop her seat and make 20 mill a year as a pundit. That i woukd call hypocritical.
But shes always been too attention/approval seeking. And no one is fooled. Id love to hang out with celebrities and drink stupid expensive champagne. But i dont see how this is anythi g but using her political celeb status to be a real celeb for a day.
That being said... who ****in cares lol.
When the designer in question owes over $100K in back taxes (if reports art to be believed) and AOC doesn't seem to mind, I will ask her to not be upset when wealthy conservatives utilize every legal loophole to avoid paying more taxes than they need to.
The American media will probably destroy any chance Ocasio-Cortez would have as an effective political figure, and it does appear that she will be a willing — if perhaps an unwitting — partner in this enterprise.
Her transgressions are examples of how difficult it is to be a true progressive in a political and media environment that is in thrall to money, power, and — for lack of a better word — glamour. Most of your national politicians are happily in bed with the rich and powerful, some by necessity, most by choice. So, when they show up at this kind of event, it is not news. But progressives like Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders are expected (in part by their own doing) to adhere to a higher — more Spartan— standard, and it is a bad look in terms of the PR when they cross the line, even though it is this kind of glamorous crapola that is the engine that for the most part runs Washington.
Apparently you do object to utilization of legal loopholes for wealthy conservatives. Otherwise, you wouldn't complain about them not paying enough taxes.
When people like AOC appear in a situation of this nature, it does more harm than good for her cause. She is shown to be a hypocritical politician, just like the rest of them -- no better or worse.
I dont object to someone using legal loopholes. I object to certain loopholes existing. I object to those loopholes being legal. And them being Conservative has nothing to do with it lol.
The same way i dont think the rich are bad people for paying too little in taxes. If you design a system based on getting as much capital as possible. You cant get mad when people try to keep as much capital is possible.
Man this is like really hard for you isnt it lol?
You seem to fundamentally not understand what i want out of our tax system. And if you expect me to defend AOCs dress every 2 seconds, you are sadly mistaken. AOC isnt the only person for raising taxes on the rich. You know that right?
The problem is she's promoting this woman in the same way people promote Illan Omar who;s a refugee turned elected congresswoman.
These aren't the same situations at all.
No, a person who leaves everything behind and comes to this country with nothing from Russia, is just as much an Immigrant as someone doing it from the Congo.
The child of Billionairs coming here from China and becoming successful is as impressive as Prince Henry doing it.
They're all immigrants, but also, not really the same. When people talk about Immigrant stories in the American context, it's usually done to promote how difficult the persons tale is, and how hard they worked. Putting someone from America Jr isn't really the same thing.
No one is claiming she isn't a "real" immigrant, but so is Prince Harry, should we be celebrating his success the same way people celebrate Ilhan Omar's?
