Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is asking (partly for herself and partly on behalf of women) to be treated with respect; not accosted; not called a ***** — or a kid — by anyone, much less her colleague in public; not battered or demeaned.

If the status quo is that men want to be treated with disrespect, fine. Then, yes, she’s aking to be treated differently.

But if men also want to be treated with respect, then, no, she does not want to be treated differently.

This is kindergarten stuff. Even the likes of you should know better.

By the way, this was not what my post was about. My post was that she called your kind out by saying basically that your position of power in this society (read in this case, male — but it could also be white, wealthy, smug) does not give you the right to “accost” her and her kind.

That might be a little more complex than kindergarten stuff, but there it is.

I get and agree with everything she said in her speech. The point I brought up was would this have been treated any different if Yoho would have made the same comments to a male congressional (or "colleague" for you). I don't think it would have been given the same "shocking" coverage if he had said it to a male. Hence reference to a double standard that even a kindergartner should be able to understand.

A point you brought up late in this dialogue and, frankly, one that is totally irrelevant because that is not what Yoho did.

So, in comparing this event (which actually happened) to your hypothetical (which did not), the only double standard is the one you conjured up in your own mind — such as it is.

For it to have risen to the same level of disrespect, it likely would need to include similarly disrespectful language (even tho language wasn't the only problem here, without it THIS episode wouldn't have gotten the same coverage). So yeah, if this were a rep named Alexander Cortez and Yoho called him a f'in *** hole, yeah it just might have gotten similar coverage...but since this also involved a group fighting to reach equality, him saying that to a male likely gets a bit less.

So I clearly queationes a phrase you used…and the thread developed (or not from that).

I also went on to say that the AOC speech was pretty good.

Are you sure moving to main is a good idea??? They're a pretty down to earth type of people up there and you don't seem like a fit. Well maybe in those few blocks in Camden that make up the art gallery district. Other than that, i don't know. You might have been happier in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
