this is something that I would expect someone on the right to say.
"This is a technique of the left wing media, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and “fact check” it."
but that isn't a quote from the right, it's what AOC said about GOP.
the "fact checking" that is done against Trump is literally anything he has said, and they take him seriously on everything. I know that I have had this conversation at PSD about lying and exaggerating. it would have to be hypocritical for anyone to agree with AOC on this when it's the same thing done for Trump.
was 12 years dry humor/sarcasm?

Ocasio-Cortez Rebuffs ‘Fact-Checkers,’ Says The World Ending In 12 Years Was ‘Dry Humor’

And during a live stream in April, Ocasio-Cortez mocked critics who blew off the claim as a joke, making it clear that she was serious when she said, “We have 12 years left to cut emissions by at least 50%, if not more, and for everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not.”
She went on to compare those who ignore climate change with those who sat on the sidelines during the Civil Rights movement. “So just know that while a lot of people can hide that their grandparents did that in the civil rights movement, you should also know that the internet documents everything,” Ocasio-Cortez warned. “And your grandchildren will not be able to hide the fact that you fought against acknowledging and taking bold action against climate change.”
She concluded by saying once more that it was not a joke. “And for those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now,” she said.
The tweet pinned to the top of Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitter profile, posted just two weeks later, again cites the 12-year deadline along with a video showing how the world could progress if people would only heed such warnings and take them seriously.

Ocasio-Cortez To Critics Of Green New Deal: "I Pity You For Your Role In History Right Now"
Quote:
On Instagram Live Wednesday night, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke to critics who laugh and make jokes about her often-repeated statement that "we have twelve years left to cut emissions by at least 50%" to stop the most devastating effects of climate change.
"For everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not," she warned. "So, understand that the internet documents everything."
"For those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now," Ocasio-Cortez explained.
REP. ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: "How many years until the world ends again?"
We have twelve years left to cut emissions by at least 50%, if not more, and for everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not.
So, understand that the internet documents everything.
You know, you want to look about, you want to talk about looking at the back of history, looking backward?
You look back and you open history books on the civil rights movement, and you see those folks who are protesting against the ability for African-Americans and black Americans to have the right to vote, and they would hold up these bigoted signs, and they would hold up signs that said things like ‘what about white rights?’ and all of this stuff, in the 1950s, 1960s.
So just know that in the present day there a lot of people who hide the fact that their families and that their grandparents fought against principles of equal rights in the United States. Not 100 years ago, not 80 years ago, but in this generation’s lifetime.
So just know that while a lot of people can hide that their grandparents did that in the civil rights movement, you should also know that the internet documents everything. And your grandchildren will not be able to hide the fact that you fought against acknowledging and taking bold action against climate change.
And for those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now.
do people really expect over the next 12 years that the world will end as we know it, or even that there will be significant change if nothing is done about climate change? this seems more like fear mongering as do something now or else.
AOC was scared of her garbage disposal, literally. snopes even said it's true.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is learning a lot of new things in Washington — including what a garbage disposal is.
The 29-year-old freshman congresswoman posted photos and videos on Instagram showing the apparently “terrifying” contraption at work in her swanky DC apartment and saying she’d never seen one before.
“OK everyone I need your help because I just moved into this apartment a few months ago and I just flipped a switch and it made that noise and it scared the daylights out of me,” Ocasio-Cortez can be heard saying in footage.
“I am told this is a garbage disposal. I’ve never seen a garbage disposal. I never had one in any place I’ve ever lived,” she later said.
The “Green New Deal”-touting Bronx Democrat wondered whether the device was “environmentally sound.”
“This DC apartment is bougie and has things I’ve never seen before…,” Ocasio-Cortez captioned the video, later noting: “Is this what social mobility is? Using kitchen appliances you never saw growing up?”
The Bronx-born representative ended her Instagram story by quipping, “All you people telling me to reach in and grab whatever’s there are just Republicans trying to test my health insurance.”
“I’m onto you.”
I've never had a garbage disposal, but I still know what one is. I can imagine not knowing you have one and then after flipping a switch and hearing the noise one is startled at first, but it shouldn't take much time to realize what it is.
