Is Burke your guy in this draft?
Printable View
I was a big fan of McLemore during the season, but as the season progressed, I started to get the same reservations I had for Perry Jones III last season: He completely disappeared in big games when his team needed him most. Only thing I dislike more than a ballhog is a player who runs from pressure. That's why I started to like Burke, that kid wanted the ball in big spots (against other top PGs) and made big shots. Same for Oladipo: when Zeller wouldn't pull his skirt up for the Hoosiers, Victor was the one who never backed down.
Mclemore, Oladipo, Shabazz, are my 3 if we trade up. I have no interest in Noel because as Bravo said he's not a center. Plus his rawness offensively is more raw than I have seen with some guys, plus the knee of course. Oladipo is the guy I have my eye on.
Tanking for Wiggins is fine with me. But we need to have pieces in places to excel with him not just let him suffer as well as the team until he gets really good. Unless he is THAT good from the jump. Horford, Teague, and (Oladipo/Mohammed/Mclemore) would be a nice starting point.
I don't have the same reservations you guys have about Noel. He's not my top choice, but I see him, Ben, Shabazz, and MCW as the most talented players in the draft. All of them have their pluses and minuses, but IMHO their pluses out weigh their minuses. I have nothing against Burke, I just don't see him as a top 5 pick ( MCW shouldn't be either, but I like his overall talent more). He could turn out to be one of the better players from the draft because he is a heady player, I just don't see star potential. I wouldn't hate the pick, but you usually trade up to get a player you think has a chance to be a star.
Most mocks don't have him in the top 5, however many do have NO picking him at 6.
we need to trade DOWN. We need to do everything in our power to lose games. Hawks fans should pissed whenever we win games next year. The cavs were 29-53 two years before drafting LeBron and 16-66 in the year prior to drafting him. They understood what was at stake so they tanked! We need to understand that Andrew Wiggins is the long-term goal here. This year, thus, should be all about losing!
Oh as far as a comparison for Noel. Another former Hawk comes to mind. I would say a more athletic but shorter Mutombo. When Mutumbo came out of George Town he was 7'2 220, a monster shot blocker and rebounder, that was very raw offensively. Now doesn't that sound like Noel.
You don't have to trade down to tank. You want to have talent around the kid in the event that you do get him. No player in this draft is going to step in and make the Hawks a lot better next year. There are several that have a chance to be very good in a year or two, but I don't see any that will step in and make a huge difference in the win department this year.
I honesty don't even think we should risk trading up this year. If we trade down and accumulate pics, then we'll have plenty of opportunities in the future to surround Wiggins with talent (assuming we are able to get him). Or we can draft the foreign guys and keep them overseas.
Good thing some of you guys aren't Danny Ferry. The Pacers,Nuggets,Grizzlies,Clippers and Spurs didn't wait to sign the biggest FA on the market. Look at how that has worked for teams in all of the major sports. You have to learn, just because Miami signed a big three, not everyone will have those same results. Why? Because there is no other LeBron, Dwade, or Bosh. We can try all we want to duplicate that recipe, but why? Saying that we should just stink to get draft picks is pretty pathetic. Its no guarantee that a few 19 Or 20 year Olds will change this team for the better. Gotta have some pride and build a team that can go far in the playoffs and actually be a threat. What if the Pacers had Granger in the ECF vs Miami? Maybe there's a different team in the finals. The point is, we cnt get down about guys signing Where they want. No one.has.control over that. We can try to pry Igoudala away, or whatever. Doesn't matter. Ferry is the one who will probably surprise a few of you.
Tim Duncan was the #1 pic lol. That's the only team you mentioned that has won anything. The NBA is star league. It always has been. The pistons may be the only team in recent history that has won anything without the prototypical "star"player. But almost every other team has had at least one star on the team. Having depth and mediocre players does nothing for you. And honestly who cares about pride at this point? The hawks have been in Atlanta for how long now and have won how may championships? The heat have been in Miami since 88 and have won THREE championships (all with star players I might add). I am willing to suck and be patient, rather than stay in the land of NBA mediocrity... which is the absolute worst place you can be in the NBA. Landing the best prospect since Lebron can be HUGE for Atlanta, not only for the future of the franchise, but to generate some excitement for hawks fans. And you want to throw away that chance to sign Igoudala? lol
Cavs have had 2 top 5 picks the last 2 years and are picking #1 again. Trading up will not take away from tanking.
Al Horford, a rookie, and fill the team with a bunch of 1 year players could still tank. Having the worst record isn't going to give you the 1st pick.
'
it sure will give the best chance to get the first pic. And no disrespect to guys like Waiters and Thompson, but they were not thought of as super stars coming out of college. Wiggins is thought of a super star RIGHT NOW, and he hasn't even played one game in college.
I understand not everyone will share my opinion and that's fine. Im just tired of being a hawks fan lol. We need some kind of spark. I though howard and paul could bring that, but that's not gonna happen. So now im just going to hope for wiggins.. Got to have hope lol
At end of the day, it doesn't matter what any of us think. Whether u want to build a team or risk it all to go for someone who never played a NBA game yet. As far as Duncan being number 1 pick, i clearly said those teams i listed didn't wait around to sign the biggest free agents out there. Anyway, i will be a hawks fan win or lose. Its up to Ferry to put out a good team.
fair enough. what happens here in the immediate future could have huge implications. But I think we should make it clear that we are not risking anything by tanking. Even if we don't get Wiggins, then we'll still have plenty of draft picks. And next year's draft already looks to be much better with Wiggins, Parker, and Randall. So we could still end up with a potential star.
The only thing we lose is the upcoming season. And let's be honest... no one is likely to knock off the heat next year anyways. Let's just tank, get one of the above mentioned players, wait for Lebron to get old, and then start the first hawks dynasty.
Tanking on purpose doesn't always work, this isn't football where it's slotted by record. The Spurs basically lucked into Duncan, they didn't TRY to suck, David Robinson (arguably a Top 3 player in the league at that time) had a season ending injury and the rest is history. The alternative is to accumulate assets, kind like the recent Celtics did, then when 'franchise' guys become available, you have to pull the trigger. BOS already had Pierce, but they moved Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, two 1sts + more in a package deal for KG, and moved high pick Jeff Green, Wally Sizzurp, Delonte West (when people thought he was good) in order to get Ray Allen. That's where Billy Knight and Rick Sund went wrong with the 'Detroit' model: they loved to compound their own mistakes (drafts, extensions), instead of striking when the iron is hot (dump 'em when value is maxed out).
In fairness: so was Shabazz Muhammad, and look at him now, damn near radioactive. Scouts compared him to Kobe in HS, now they compare him to role players. Bottom line: what looks good now can change quickly, that goes for us (fans and teams, in terms of a 'plan') as well as for players once they step into a bigger spotlight.Quote:

I think Noel will be great in NBA if stays healthy but we have no need to worry about him as Orlando plan on drafting him if Cavs passes...
I don't think Noel will be a bad player, just think other guys (like Oladipo) have a higher ceiling, which is what we all probably want from the pick if Ferry jumps up that high. My sleeper is CJ McCollum, that kid plays with a chip on his shoulder.Quote:

I would say he reminds me of Paul George, but he's not nearly aggressive enough. I guess he would be looked at as a stretch 4..
Rumors that Boston wants to sign-n-trade for Josh Smith. The rumor is saying they are trying to get a big TPE for Pierce and flip it into J. Smith..
I'm with Silver&Black on this one. I could be over thinking it, but the fact that Jeff has still not received a qualifying offer makes me think they may be looking Point Guard. Ferry said he'd address the qualifying offers after the draft (Or after the decision is made to draft a PG or not?). I think if we trade up it will be for Trey Burke, or another point. However, if you're looking at top 5 Burke makes more sense to me than MCW and McCollumn, the others will go top 10 but to pick them top 5 would be reaching. Like most have said, it comes down to Jeff, and as much as I like Teague, for the purpose of rebuilding I think I would rather have Burke or one of the others . A rookie contract should be lower than Teague's asking price, and you could argue that they all have more potential than Jeff at this point.
^^^Pierce wouldn't come to the Hawks, the C's would trade the TPE they got for trading Pierce to another squad..
I wouldn't agree with you there, this is one of the weakest drafts I've seen when it comes to pg's. Especially compared to the pg talent that was in the draft when Teague came out. If Ferry goes pg from where the Hawks are picking, they might as well tear it completely down and get what they can for Horford. P.S. Like your sig pic, that's clean..
I'm just not sold on that MCW kid. Somebody is going to really have to take their time with him if he wants to last in the league.
I'd be col with this! Because the NBA has slotted pay scales, Id take the Greek Freak with the first pick to save a little money. Being that it's likely he'll stay over for at least a year.Quote:
SPN's Chad Ford released his Mock Draft 6.0 Tuesday afternoon (Insider required) and shifts gears on the prediction for Atlanta, having the Hawks go all Billy Knight on the Bird Watchers and taking wingmen Giannis Antetokounmpo and Shabazz Muhammad with their two picks.
While it seems odd the Hawks would elect to forego big men with the two picks, Ford says that he keeps hearing Giannis' name in concert with the Hawks and feels like the Muhammad slide has to end at some point:
As far as MCW goes...... I don't think some of you have seen the kid play. The only thing he can't do is shoot. While that is a huge hole, I will remind people Jason Kidd couldn't shoot either when he entered the NBA. Our last great pg Mookie, wasn't a great shooter either. While I do think he'll have to put in a lot of work on his jump shot ( and I do mean a lot!), his passing ability, I have not seen in the college ranks since Paul and D-Will. He's also a good defender and rebounds his position. If Ferry is planning on keeping JT, this kid would compliment him very well.
I cannot believe you guys want to let Teague go..If we do, We will regret it down the road..Trust me on that one!
Build around Horford & Teague!!
Please get him. Draft whoever, just get MKG.Quote:

Bobcats have placed Michael Kidd-Gilchrist on the trading block, the Bucks, Warriors, Celtics and Hawks have expressed interest in MKG.
THIS. Trade two future first rounders. IDC! Best case scenario he turns into Iguodala, worst case he's a gerald wallace type. Then trade our two first's to 5 and take oladipo! re-sign teague. Take a chance on Andrew Bynum on a one year deal to prove himself? That's a guy nobody is talking about, but if we could get himo on a one year deal. Get a trade exception and a first round pick for jsmoove.
PG-Teague
SG-Oladipo
SF-MKG
PF-Horford
C-Bynum
That's a quick turn around and barring a healthy bynum, this team could make noise with a solid bench.. yeah i know i just took one report and went crazy with it, but that's okay. that's what the off season is for lol
Just about to post this!
I wonder how we would go about this?Quote:
“MKG” had an up-and-down rookie season for the Bobcats averaging 9.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.5 apg, 0.9 bpg and 0.7 spg. Among the teams most interested, according to the source, are the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics. SheridanHoops

I don't think the Bobcats are on Smith's list for S&T, so that's out.
I don't think the Bobcats would have much interest in a S&T for JT since they have Kimba.
Horford for MKG and their number 1 pick? IDK, I might want next years as well or the option to flip picks next year.
Maybe it could be part of the Josh Smith to Celtics trade?
Other options:
I would trade Horford. Yes I would. Bobcats would have Porter and Horford instead of MKG. We get to rebuild with a great piece.
I would trade both our picks this year as well.
Good for the Hawks, but why would the Bobcats do that? IMHO Ferry wouldn't give up un-protected picks to get MKG. He's good, but not that good, yet anyway. SO if the picks are protected, they can get better offers for MKG and someone who could help them now.
MKG on the Hawks is what I wanted last year, and I would trade this draft away for him this year as well.
