Also seeing Demarre Carroll on a 2yr 5mil deal
Don't like this at all. Not sure why Ferry would do this. We just gonna sit in 7th, 8th seed?
Asik now?
I don't know about Asik now. I didn't realize his contract broke down the same way Lin's did, 15 mil next season. If he ends up being a piece we get back in a sign and trade for Josh, maybe we can restructure that contract. Also don't know if you're paying Millsap 9.5 a season to come off the bench. I think Al is still a center...
I'm just going to wait until Ferry has 12 guys on this roster to see what he is really doing, but I hope Horford is our PF. Also the end of Josh Smith as a Hawk.
The guys Ferry has brought in are guys with the right attitude and hard workers, the type of players you want to start building a culture with. I think were going to see a rebuild that combines the draft with moves like these.
I love the millsap signing....Wont never have to question Paul...He gives you a 110% everynight...Ivan Johnson on steroids!!! A lot of heart!!
Good athleticism, Solid rebounder, Good mid-range game, Good Post moves, and even has great handles for a dude his size..A beast in the paint is what he is..And even though he's only 6'8, he will dunk on you.
Great value deal...You'll want to resign him when his contract is up.
Vivlamore on the 2 signings:
Quote:
In Millsap and Carroll the Hawks continue to fill their roster with high-character, professional players. The contracts are also cap friendly and could be moved if necessary.
Quote:
In Carroll the Hawks get a hard-working wing defender with size. The Hawks hope that work ethic will be contagious for the number of young players on the roster.
It's interesting that it's a 2 year deal and could be moved. Wonder if Ferry thought "hard worker, gives it his all. I could gather up pieces and if a star is demanding a trade, I have trade bait"?
My hope now is that Schroeder gets some playing time with us.
Yeah, Ferry has a plan. We're just still waiting to see what it is.
Are you guys doing a sign n trade with Houston?
Not sure. If so, not for Lin and Asik. New Orleans is talking with Houston about Asik so I don't think anything will come from that and Lin's contract is a no for the Hawks.
I do think Josh Smith will be a S&T though, maybe for a Guard as there was a report ATL was about to offer Mo Williams a contract before Millsap. Looks like Teague might be gone as well maybe in favor of a vet/Dennis combo.
A S&T idea that has been brought up in the past but now actually looks better with what we are doing. Maybe a S&T Josh Smith for Gasol now? Isn't he an expiring this year?
Horford/Gasol with Millsap off the bench would be pretty good in the East.
Wow Houstons going to get Anderson over smith
I like Jeff teague . How come you guys aren't resigning him?
I'd like to see Jeff Teague back, but if he's not resigned its because of Dennis Schroeder, our 1st round pick. He's getting compared to Rondo, but has a jump shot.

Though the Hawks used up some of their cap space on agreements with Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll tonight, Atlanta remains the team most likely to make a lucrative offer to try to lure Nikola Pekovic from the Wolves, tweets Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune.
Teague is restricted. Mo Williams was going to be offered as a backup. If any of you think denis is ready for the Nba, you're mistaken. Ferry is trying to fill out the roster and bring some new faces in . Teague will be given an extension, and the hawks will match any offer he will get.
Do you think he won't be in the league at all next season? I highly doubt both 1st rounders won't be on the roster.
So far we got:
Al Horford and Mike Muscala at the Center position.
Paul Millsap, Mike Scott, and DeMarre Carroll at the forward positions.
Lou Williams, Kyle Korver, John Jenkins, and Jared Cunningham at the Guards.
9 guys, and could bring Jeff Teague back, which takes it to 10. Am I missing anybody?
We most likely will try a sign and trade offer for Josh Smith to pick up another player, which would leave a roster spot open. Being low on PGs, and money after all these signings, Dennis will most likely be on the roster this upcoming season IMO.
For the time being, this is what I see:
Jeff Teague/Dennis Schroeder
John Jenkins/Lou Williams/Jared Cunningham
Kyle Korver/DeMarre Carroll
Paul Millsap/Mike Scott
Al Horford/Mike Muscala
11 players with a potential Josh Smith move. If Smith signs somewhere without a sign and trade, I'm not sure how much cap room we have left to sign players.
Millsap was a strong signing for Atlanta and I love it. Really hoping to see some back court noise now.
For those who were discussing the Lin and asik contracts... those guys only count as an eight million cap hit. The balloon poison hit only applied to new York and Chicago if they matched. The amount of money paid total was the same but Houston was allowed to spread out the cap hit evenly.
This is what I was saying d.carroll and milsap? We still don't have a center, sf, or certified sg we don't have a plan same old hawks log jam at the same positions . Smfh
I think GS is going to make a trade they didn't sign iggy to come off the bench
Most likely horford is the center like he has been his entire career. In a conference where the heat start bosh at center and the bulls have Noah I think horford is fine. A seven footer off the bench would be great but getting Millsap for 9.5 million was a steal. In a league where Mayo gets 8 a guy like Millsap is worth more than 9.5.
You don't pay a guy a shade under 10 in FA to come off the bench. Milsap will start! And it begs the question, what does that mean for AL? Will he remain at center or will he be traded?
Chris Vivlamore (AJC) summed it up in his report: http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/hawks...-milsap/nYfQT/
Those of you looking for Ferry's 'plan', can now see it in motion -- this is what Spurs-lite looks like. Millsap and Carroll are great value signings, guys who play hard all the time. Fans wanted us to pursue superstars, Ferry did that at least 3 times over the past year or so and we were rejected each time, by the hometown guy Dwight twice, and CP3 once. Now Ferry seems to be transitioning to Plan B which is all heart/hustle guys on manageable deals who can be dealt the next time a star becomes available via trade, not tanking.Quote:

As I told yall, Atlanta Spirit Group literally can't afford anymore financial losses (LINK) from inevitable declining attendance if they blew it up, he has to rebuild on the fly... like Houston just did. Daryl Morey didn't allow HOU to tank, his best players used to be Martin, Scola and Lowry -- he made smart trades, developed under-the-radar prospects (Parsons) and was still aggressive in free agency last year (Asik, Lin) on manageable deals, which put the Rockets where they are now: a FA destination. That's how the Hawks have to do it. In the meantime, Hawks fans need to quit whining and complaining about every little move. That ***** attitude is a huge reason why stars don't come here. Golden State fans supported garbage teams for decades, no excuse here.
Not necessarily. We're seeing a pattern of Ferry simply not going past a certain line with guys since he arrived. The number of suitors for Teague has decreased the last few days, which could give the front office leverage in negotiations, but I'm sure he'd either let Jeff walk or do a S&T if the number is too high or if a good value trade presented itself. Can't really comment on Schroder yet, we'll have a better idea after Summer League sorts itself out.Quote:

Rebounding, specifically offensive boards. Millsap isn't a traditional floor spacer but I want to him tested at small forward, in part because the SFs around the league are getting bigger and taller. With Asik-Horford-Millsap, our frontcourt would dominate on the glass.
Why not do a trade with Portland for Aldridge.
I would be happy to attain either Asik or Pekovic, move Horford to PF and Millsap at SF. Anxious to see what we do with Teague, which I think we will resign but who knows...
Aldridge has said that he wants out of Portland. Not saying we will get him, but an interesting thought.
More than likely we will do a S&T with Houston, I just hope they dont include J.Lin.
