Someone or someones, need to step-up and become the go-to guy(s) in the crunch this year. Good ball movement and executing plays makes for a very efficient offense, but there are times when you still need a guy to grab the ball and beat his man. Obvious candidates to me would beTeague/Horford/Williams..

Greg Oden went through a two-hour workout Tuesday in Indianapolis in front of Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, new Sacramento Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro and representatives from the New Orleans Pelicans, according to sources close to the situation. Sources told ESPN that Oden will put his skills on display again Thursday for Atlanta Hawks officials before sitting down for his long-anticipated private meeting with the Pelicans later this week in Las Vegas. If Oden is healthy and we sign him that along with the signing of Brand would move my predicted max win total for the Hawks to 35.

I agree the we are weak at the 2 and 3, but I believe Teague will have a break out year as well we will get Lou Williams back. This team will be better this year than last year

The Hawks are close to buying out the contract of Lucas Nogueira.
The team is reportedly concerned about him going overseas to Spain and the move could save them just under $1 million. Nogueira had some impressive highlights in summer leagues with a slew of dunks while protecting the rim. He's extremely raw, so it might be a while before he makes an impact in the NBA.

Antić is 30 years old and has had a lot of success in Euroleague play. He'll be a solid veteran backup for Atlanta but is unlikely to have any real fantasy value this season behind Al Horford, Paul Millsap and Elton Brand. The deal is expected to be for two years, although the Hawks did not release terms.
Would seem to answer the question of Nog staying or going.
While I'm not excited about the win loss total for the Hawks in this upcoming season, I am excited about seeing what baby Rondo and the Hair can do on the NBA level.

That was my biggest indictment of Woodson and Drew, both coaches would bury guys on the bench then whine about lack of depth later on. It's the first thing I'll be watching for with Budenholzer. The thing the Spurs did/do more than other teams is put any of their players on the floor in any situation, especially the inexperienced guys. Pop actually teaches his young guys, then throws them into the fire and expects results. We don't know if Bud will be better than our last two coaches but that kind of thing goes a long way to earning respect from your team.Quote:

Drew had no job security, so I partially agree with your statement. I don't think that was the case with Woodson, BK even tried to fire him, so I think his job was secure for a while at least. Woodson threw Both Josh's, Al, and Marv out there early in their careers. The problem with Woodson is if he didn't like you as a player or your attitude you where not playing ask A.C. Zaza barely played last year, Ivan did hustle, and Whose to say Schroeder or Lou won't bs better than Devin. The players we bright in to replace them aren't JV players you know. Demarre Carroll is essentially Ivan with a better 3 point shot, just not as mean, still the same grit and hustle though. Millsap actually uses his talent instead of jacking threes all game. So basically the decision to overpay for our former backup center (Zaza) forced the Bucks to release their backup center who does many of the same things, is younger, at one-third of the cost... and that's who we just claimed. OK.

Lucas Nogueira showed promise while playing for the Atlanta Hawks' summer league team, but the first round pick will "most likely" return to play in Spain next season.
The Hawks claimed Gustavo Ayon off waivers.
The Hawks had been debating whether it was better for Nogueira’s development to play major minutes overseas or play limited minutes while on a weight-training program in Atlanta.

Christian Watford has signed with Hapoel Eilat of Israel.
Watford played collegiately at Indiana and went undrafted in June.
Watford can play both forward positions.

Nog's situation wasn't going to be an obvious decision either way. Plenty of potential and plays with a lot of energy, but still raw and thin. Likely a year or two away from being a difference maker. Schroder, OTOH, is an easy call.

Per Synergy Sports, last season Carroll held opponents to 42.2% shooting, fouled on only 7% of his official defensive possessions (any possession ending in a field goal, turnover, or free throw), while forcing turnovers on 9.1% of his official defensive possessions. Carroll is a very good pick-and-roll defender, allowing opponents to score on only 35.6% of the time as the pick-and-roll ball-handler against him, and forced a turnover on an incredible 26% of pick-and-roll possessions against him.
Adding Carroll will allow the Hawks to experiment with different lineups and back-court combinations depending on the opponent due to his defensive prowess. Prior to Carroll’s signing, Korver was the only true small forward on the roster (and he spent part of last season playing shooting guard) which would have forced Budenholzer and the coaching staff to be creative with their rotations. Carroll gives the Hawks much needed depth and will provide a defensive presence on the wing that they needed.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Hawks were in on this, since they have experimented with so many different uniforms over the past decade. I also believe this is just part of the league's bigger plan to slowly move to soccer-style NBA jerseys featuring various ads prominently on the front and sleeves instead of team logos. More space to sell.
