The son of former NBA player Rich Manning, this 6-foot-6 right-hander was delayed in the start of his senior season because of his own high school basketball exploits. He was rushing up Draft boards as the spring progressed.
A premium athlete, Manning uses every inch of his frame to his advantage on the mound. Though he started late because his basketball team made a deep postseason run, Manning was nonetheless up to 96-97 mph with his fastball in early outings. He combines that with hard, power curve that has very good bit to it. His changeup will be his third pitch, but he's shown some feel for it and it should be a viable option in the future.
Manning's size, athleticism, stuff and projectability had decision-makers rushing in to see him in Northern California. The Loyola Marymount commit has risen to close to the top of the high school pitching list and could very well hear his name called in the first round.
When it said "son of former NBA player..." I was 100% expecting Danny Manning lol
Seems they addressed the pitching position early
First round: 9. Matt Manning, RHP, Sheldon HS, Sacramento, Calif.
Fourth round: 115. Kyle Funkhouser, RHP, University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky.
Fifth round: 145. Mark Ecker, RHP, Texas A&M, College Station Texas
Sixth round: 175. Bryan Garcia, RHP, University of Miami, Miami, Fla.
Seventh round: 206. Austin Sodders, LHP, UC Riverside, Riverside, Calif.
Eighth round: 235. Jacob Robson, CF, Mississippi State, Starkville, Miss.
Ninth round: 265. Daniel Pinero, SS, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.
10th round: 295. Sam Machonis, RF, Florida Southern, Lakeland, Fla.
Anyone got a word on how many of these guys can realistically make the MLB?
Apparently, in all seriousness, Funkhouser is nearly mlb ready from what I read. Went 35th overall last year to the Dodgers but didn't sign. Got off to a rough start this season at Louisville but came on strong late. Seems like a pretty nice pick for a 4th rounder.
And 8th rounder Jacob Robson from my area, Windsor, Ontario. Nice to see.

Manning could be something special down the road if he stays healthy
