Arnette beat Prince for the 2nd starting CB spot.
Lawson is the #3 CB
Keisean Nixon appears to have beaten Prince for the #4 CB spot.
Amik Robertson is your #5 CB.
So if Raiders keep 6 its either 2nd year 4th round pick Isiah Johnson or vet Prince
Looks like Raiders went with youth.
This is good news imo, couldn’t beat out our current youth for a spot
So much for that. Arnette beat him out. Don't be surprised if N. Morrow is released next.
If Lawson is our 3 and Nixon is our 4, we are in trouble if Arnette or Mullen gets hurt. I doubt if Nixon, lawson and Johnson are better than apple or prince. Prince was ranked 41st in the nfl last year. Was Nixon ranked? 130th Lawson? I agree with a youth movement. But our corners are weak. We need all the help we can get
I don't think the Raiders will part ways with Isaiah Johnson just yet.
Arnette was the best corner on the roster as soon as his name was called at the draft. He will be a steal. Depth is what Im concerned about...
Obviously prince couldn't keep up with the young guys physically. It's allabout speed aand youth in this division you gotta have guys who can move. With prince we would constantly see him getting torched like he was in camp. People would be calling for his release soon. Better to give the younger players playing time
Torched? How? How long have we been in pads? Prince has proven to be a solid starter in the nfl. Hence his 41st rank in the nfl. Release him cuz Johnson is physically gifted? What was Lawson ranked? Maybe 180th for Lawson. Maybe Johnson is 230th? What’s Nixon done??? Nothing.
I get Mullen and Arnette. They are good.
It doesn’t matter if someone is young if they suck.
Some people are overthinking this. He didn’t get beat out by all our young talent lol. Arnette was beating him and Joyner plays the slot. Prince can get a starter job and money elsewhere and he doesnt want to be our #4 or #5 and spend most of his time on the bench. We did him a courtesy to keep his career rolling and released him despite him still being a top 3 pure cb on this team. Yes this says something about our young talent but mostly it was just a classy and money saving move on our part. Let’s just hope our youngsters are ready.
This was a bad move. Depth in the secondary is not a bad thing.
Arnette had a real bad game. He might turn out to be the bust of this class. Then again he is versatile enough to play in the slot, so we can salvage the pick. Haven't heard much about Robertson so far. https://raiderswire.usatoday.com/202...-in-nfl-debut/
Let’s calm down. He got toasted by a veteran receiver on a terrible play. Most of his negative ratings were from that. Apart from that he gave up 35 scoreless yards, made several tackles and tipped a pass.
One week does not make a bust, and most rookie corners aren’t ready to start week 1. Give the kid a break.
The Webster's Unabridged Dictionary shows the definition of overreaction as:
o·ver·re·ac·tion
/ˈˌōvə(r)rēˈakSHən/
noun
noun: overreaction; plural noun: overreactions; noun: over-reaction; plural noun: over-reaction
a more emotional or forcible response than is justified.
"sacking him is a massive overreaction"
- Refer to erickench, the paradigm of overreaction
Did any of you guys read the article? He was targeted five times and allowed four catches for 110 yards. It's not just one play. That's an 80% completion rate allowed.
5 targets
1 defection + (4 catches for 110 yards + TD)
1 deflection + [(3 catches for 35 yards) + (1 catch for 75 yards + 1 TD)]
That's why people are saying it's just 1 play. Everyone gets beat sometimes. Arnette got beat on a great double move but held his own otherwise.
^^^ He allowed a 158.3 passer rating! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!
No they’re telling you you’re overreacting and commenting prematurely. It’s one game for a rookie CB at a position that takes a few years to grow into. He got burned badly on one play. Outside of that he wasn’t horrible. Pump your breaks and let’s see some games before we start throwing bust out there.
Stats can be misleading, specially when they're based on 5(!) data points lol, and even more so when 1 of the 5 data points is a big outlier (4 targets for 35 yards vs 1 target for 75 yards). Check back at the end of the season, if he's still allowing a 158.3 rating then he's a bust.
Or don't... you're just gonna want them to move him to H-Back or something during the bye week so who cares?
Raiders had zero pressure on the QB.. Your going to give up points when that happens
