True, I certainly don't think the answer is more government. Which is ironically why I do support the way Obama went about it. The plan is modeled quite well after a plan the Heritage Foundation and the 1990s Republican congress came up with, to both of their credits. Really the only expansion that government gets is increasing Medicaid eligibility from those at the poverty line to 133%. The biggest portion of it gives tax credits to individuals and loosens federal restrictions on what states can do to reform their system.

I wouldn't put many restraints on interstate sales, but the first one I would have is that you would be required to have a substantial (meaning able to handle customer complaints and government inquiries) office operation in each and every state you do business in. A customer shouldn't have to go to Washington state if they buy insurance from you in Florida. That is how it works with car insurance and I think that works out great.

Oh you meant specifically about the interstate market? Ok that makes more sense.

I don't think that would be the best approach, because I do think there need to be some limitations, but in general terms I fully agree with you. One specific regulation that I think I couldn't support getting rid of is the ban on insurers denying people for pre-existing conditions. I generally support a company's right to run their business their way, but that kind of stuff sickens me.

That is one of the things that I like about the new health care law. It made that available, but the two states have to agree. That way they can work out what requirements for coverage are in a way that should work out best for both state's citizens.

It is an industry that truly sickens me. I wrote a paper on it a few years ago for my Macro Econ class. The way they operate bothers me a great deal and so many people but nothing is done because they have all the state and local governments in their pocket by way of legal bribe.
