Totally unphased by the moment. Itís his first playoff experience.

For the 8th youngest playoff roster in history, this team has surprised with the poise. Losing game 1 and winning 3 of 4 against the best coach, veteran team, game 7.

Portland is facing a terrible matchup against Denver. They are excellent at taking away the 3pt and we have no interior defense with Nurk out against Jokic.

Im in the West coast but I get up at 3 AM so I havent seen much of the later games, still, there is some kind of feeling that these are the 2 lesser teams left in the 'loffs. Funny how that worked out but I'd wager it would be harder to get through the East than the West this year. CP3 has fallen off hard, Nurkic is lost, Denver unproven.

Sad cause outside of KD, Joker and Dame are the best performing players this playoffs.

Outside of KD, they are basically the only true superstars that are legit carrying their squads on a level that makes them contenders, whereas GS could contend on some level with or without KD.

Dame and CJ ICE cold and the Blazers are still up 15 going into the half... in Denver. That's never a good sign. I missed a lot of the 2nd quarter but damn were the Nuggets cold nearly every second I watched. If Portland wins this game I think they take both at home and win the series in 6. Portland is tougher at home than San Antonio.
Season on the line in the 2nd half for Denver imo.

Sad cause outside of KD, Joker and Dame are the best performing players this playoffs.

The best player has been Kawhi by a decent margin to be honest. KD has probably been the best in the West but looking at the advanced stats even against Curry they're tied in VORP, essentially tied in shooting efficiency and Win Shares, and Curry has him in BPM. With Kawhi he's absolutely dominating his team in all facets and leading all players in half those stats.

Huh? According to basketball reference
Jokic
VORP-1.2
Box plus minus-14
Win shares-2.0
Offensive rating-132.1
PER-32.9
26ppg/12rpg/9apg

Leonard
VORP-.9
Box plus minus-12.5
Win shares-1.9
Offensive rating-127.9
PER-32.7
31ppg/8rpg/4apg

A decent margin? Difference between Spurs and Magic? Not a decent margin at all.

This is one of the those games that, as Popovich would say, sets the sport back 20 years lol.

This was an eyesore of a game for 3.5 quarters. Just awful basketball. It picked up at the end, but this is a game where if your team wins you're just happy to move on to the next one and if your team loses you're beyond frustrated and disgusted at the level of play.

The Nuggets missed 11 straight 3s until Torrey Craig hit one, after he came back from what looked a broken nose, in the 4th. Missed 8 Fts. Missed several layups.

I had no idea what Paul Millsap was doing half the time. It go so bad that I almost closed my eyes when he touched the ball because it felt like it was going to be disastrous.

Denver isn't winning in Portland

Well they said the same thing about SA where we have played terrible for years, and I know itís not the playoffs but we have had success in Portland. 1-1 this year and that one loss was without Jokic Murray and Millsap.

Denver settled and I donít think they shoot 34%/20%/60% again. To be at least fighting at the end like we did there are positives.

Iím sure nothing gets done. What a disaster if it leads to a suspension. Jokic pushes Kanter, Kanter sells the push, Craig inadvertently gets hit in the process, Murray gets suspended because Harris sees Craig injured and has words with Kanter.

Although the way Murray was hobbling around maybe a suspension would help him heal. We canít afford that though. But what a way to get suspended if it happens

I saw a list of 6-7 guys who left the bench area during the conflict which is an automatic suspension ... but there was a timeout called so they may or may not let them skate depending on what else happens. Based on the league office over-ruling refs already in these playoffs I'd guess the bench guys don't get in trouble.

All a suspension would do at this point is reward whichever team happened to have their best players in the game at the time.

Jokic beat out magic Johnson to become the only player in nba history to play 65 minutes in a playoff game. Magic played 62 minutes in a playoff game in 1993

Jokic also has the third most played minutes in any game, including regular season. Only Dale Ellis (69 min) and Xavier McDaniel (68 min) has played more minutes. They were both on the same team in 1989 when they achieved this

Last night was frustrating because for the first time Denver showed their youth.

Regulation they are up 5 with a minute left and they come down to 2 straight turnovers.

1st overtime I think Murray lost his shoe and Jokic held it at half court for 14 seconds instead of calling something.

3rd overtime Craig lets lillard by him too easy. Murray turns it over. Murray settles for a 30 foot shot trying to go Lillard with Kanter on him.

Honestly thought Denver lost that game not Portland won it. Too many stupid *** mistakes late.

EDIT: read the twitter comments and if he wants a flagrant this is ridiculous. Kanter a big boy gets deep so you have to be physical but the intent to injure? Jokic isnít soft but he is far from dirty.

Iím not sure. Do I think it was excessive? Sure. Do I think he was targeting that shoulder? Absolutely.

But, it wasnít dirty and doesnít deserve anything more than maybe an offensive foul.

Didn't stay up to watch the end of the game, but saw the highlights this morning and it makes it look like both teams were dominant on offense when they were missing so much. Just a clear depiction on how people who watch highlights can't tell what happened in the game.

It was a close game in pretty much every regard with both teams missing a lot of shots. 137 total missed shots in one game is kind of amazing to watch.

If you can find the overtimes only, I'd say watch it. It was tit for tat all the way through, really it was who's going to tire out first and start making fatigue mistakes....I would liken this to an endurance competition.

This was a tough one.

The Nuggets were up 4 points in the first OT with 31 seconds to go. They should've closed it there.

Then in the 3rd OT They had a chance with 7 seconds left, tied 129-129, and instead of running a proper play through Jokic, Murray isolated on Kanter and launched a horrible deep 3 that had no chance of going in.

When you miss opportunities like that, you kinda deserve to lose.

Now it's a must win for them in game 4. Jokic will likely be very sore from playing 65 minutes and might be a nonfactor. We'll see.

Total cheap shot there

I liked the play in Game 1 (I think) where Jokic just put his head down and rammed his face into Kanterís shoulder and they called a foul on Kanter. Jokic gets a lot of well deserved credit for being a heck of a player but between his cheap shots and flopping, Iím not sure why others donít call him out more. His shove of Kanter into Craig (the broken nose guy is Craig, right?) towards the end of Game 2 almost started a brawl.

Jokic flops a lot. But Kanter is a beast down low. No way a Jokic push has him going nearly full speed when his momentum is going towards the hoop. Jokic was in foul trouble, Kanter tried selling it, Harris didnít see what happened but see his guy is down he said some things. Kanter obviously didnít try to injure Craig. Jokic canít push a guy standing still to the 3 point line Full speed, especially Kanter man.

That looked like a hardcore shove where I donít think Kanter even embellished it. Good on Murray for sticking up for his guy but he shouldíve been mad at Jokic after seeing the replay. Craig couldíve really gotten hurt and there wouldíve been no one to blame but Jokic.

It's the new way to play the game. You can create blatant contact on offense and get the call.

No question that could have been called on Jokic. There has never been a time in the game where throwing an elbow has been okay. The refs just missed it.

I just hope this doesn't influence the refs in game 4 and they start giving Jokic cheap fouls for boxing out Kanter. Kanter will definitely look to embellish calls now on box outs.

Kanters momentum is going to the hoop. Jokic pushes him (yes a foul) with no running start. Not a damn chance you throw a man your size 18 feet full speed the other way. Again Kanter who is no pansy, and Jokic who isn't the strongest guy.

Try finding someone your size with no running start and their momentum coming at you, pushing them 18 feet into a full sprint. It doesn't happen man. Jokic had 5 fouls, Kanter tried to get him to 6. That's all there is to it.

You have to wait a bit to see it on this link but Kanterís momentum is not going to the hoop. He gets shoved by Jokic and head flops after heís moving away from Jokic because he got pushed. This is 75% a shove and 25% a head flop and Kanter just let his momentum go away from Jokic because of Jokicís action.

18 feet? Craig was about 6 or 7 feet away when Kanter bumped into him. Again, Jokic shoved a prone Kanter and Kanter let his momentum take him away. As far as the momentum thing, Jokic got leverage. And when you get under a guy a little bit whoís not moving and extend your arms, heíll go the way youíre shoving.

I donít think Jokic is a dirty player. Not his personality. I believe Jokic is expected Kanter to bang a bit since he is a beast down low. I donít think it deserves a tech or flagrant.

Havenít heard a ton about the play from the NBA either. I see that type of box out every day coaching. He lowered his shoulder and his elbow extended through his chest. It gets called from here on out though I bet.

From the DenverStiffs on why Nikola Jokic is so important for the Nuggets success:

https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/16211708/Screen_Shot_2019_05_04_at_6.35.05_PM.png
Two-Man Net Ratings show just how much the Nuggets have struggled with Mason Plumlee on the floor.

Why did Jokic nearly break the record for most minutes played in a playoff game in NBA history last night? Because the Nuggets cannot survive without him. The first two columns of the above table prove that. Jokic has been able to mitigate the damage when playing next to Plumlee, but when Jokic goes to the bench? Disaster ensues. In 405 minutes with Jokic on the court, the Nuggets have posted a respected +5.8 Net Rating, highest among all Denver rotation players. In the 95 minutes he has sat? -13.7 Net Rating, lowest among the group. The Nuggets cannot survive without their superstar. They proved that last game. In a three point loss in which Jokic sat for just three minutes the entire game, Jokic was plus-5 in the plus-minus department.

It takes something special for a player to play 65 minutes one game, and then two nights late come back and drop a 20-10-10 triple double playing another 39 minutes in a win.

we hear all the time, a win is a turning point in the season. Yesterday. That was a franchise changing victory for Denver.

Denver had no business winning that game. 4 OT, big minutes from their players, on the road, down 2-1. So many other teams would have folded game 4. Denver showed tons of grit, and toughness. There is no reason for any one on that roster not to believe they can win any game after game 4.

I am still not 100% sure they will win this series. but they are going to be a tough out from now to the next 5-10 years because of the experience they have gained this postseason

NBA going to suspend Barton?

The standing over a fallen player should definitely be a possible technical, the shove at Curry too, the finger in the eye is the worst of the 3. Don't know what Curry said though.

It doesn't seem like any of the other guys that poke eyes and stand over players in this Playoffs have been suspended so he'll prolly be fine.

Yea. Iíve seen people call him dirty. Iím stopping well short of that. But thereís a for sure lack of respect for doing that.

Really? Who? Iím not a Barton fan at all, but ever since he came to Denver he is breaking scrums up, never talking ****. He is an even keel guy. He doesnít play defense 98 percent of the time.

Absolutely dirty and if they suspend him then so be it.

did the Nuggets' coach really just get offended that the Blazers referred to some Nuggets players as 'sassy'? then go on to speak of the game 6 skirmish w/o acknowledging that his player deliberately poked a Blazer in the eyes?

I remember the shoe incident with Trevor Ariza. Figured he was a dope since then.

This game will come down to the bench. The Nuggets bench has to step up, in particular Will Barton. If he has a decent game, the Nuggets will win.

Why did I read the "he is an even keel guy" as "he even is a kneel guy" aka Kapernick..

I think itís 60% Denver wins. Best home team in the NBA and Jokicís size has killed us all series.

We are going to need to be on our A game to win. Dame has to play great and we need to shoot well and cut down on turnovers. And for the love of God get a Goddamn rebound.

Do you agree with Zach Lowe that the Blazers wouldn't be here if not for that seemingly minor move for Hood?

Officiating, the primary reason I so rarely watch an NBA game. Murray gets three free throws committing an offensive foul after Denver retained possession when a guy slid on his *** with the ball followed by a dunk after at least three steps.

zn23

I like that Mike Malone has staggered his rotations. He's not taking all of his starters off at the same time. Which means Rodney Hood doesn't get those mismatches on Murray.

However, I'm always worried when Jokic goes to the bench especially since Plumlee has been awful these entire playoffs.

If there's a time for Portland to make their run it's right now.

zn23

I would say Portland has the momentum. The Nuggets have gone ice cold from 3. Murray has missed two completely wide open shots and hasn't been the same since the first quarter. Portland's also driving the ball more and playing better defense.

Unfortunately, the Nuggets are going to have to play Plumlee with Millsap in foul trouble and that's really bad.

This one might go down to the wire.

Well after weathering the most disastrous half of basketball I've ever see the Blazers and Lillard play, we're only down 9. LONG way to go to get the lead but we are within striking distance. Keep our composure and MAKE A ****ING SHOT!

Jamal Murray picked the absolute worst game to have one of his worst shooting nights.

2-14, just awful. Lillard isn't playing that much better. But Murray is so important to the Nuggets success because they don't have that 2nd option after Jokic who can create his own shot.

That's why a lot of their playoff success hinged on Murray playing well.

If he doesn't step it up, the Nuggets are facing an absolute embarrassing collapse.

Jamal Murray is having one of his worse games ever. Denver canít hit open shots any more. Portland has been the more scrappiest team. Dame and CJ have adjusted and now started driving on every PnR which Denver defensively hasnít adjusted to that
